Why is game developing so hard?
Why is game developing so hard?
its easy if you set the bar low
its night now, so I have to switch over from making my monster game to making my platformer
Finally, a fresh thread. Every time I see one of these it has 100+ or usually 300 replies.
>waits for fresh thread
>comes here just to say "fresh thread"
?
you got to learn a lot of varied shit to just get around the basics.
If i start developing a game and posting threads with demos here will i get ridiculed and banned? I've been making games for like 15 years as a hobby but never share them
You will be encouraged but only if they don't look blatantly low effort
If it's free and/or in testing, you should be fine. If you're just blatantly shilling your own game though, people will easily catch on. It's better to post in these "game dev" threads.
threads? people wont care unless you make alot.
Finding the motivation to work on a large-scale, long-term, solo project with low probability of having an actual payoff at the end is very difficult. A lot of the problem solving isn't too hard if you give yourself time and apply yourself, but motivating yourself to do it all for no reward is hard.
It's super easy today, even women can do it.
I know javascript isn't a very good object-oriented programming language, but it's all I know, i'm not good with it but I'm competent enought to make something happen. What engine is good for really basic 2d stuff?
We plan to use retro alternate costumes for a lot of the characters. I'm not sure if they'll be unlocked at the start of the game or if you'll have to buy them (With sand dollars not actual money, obviously) but they'll be playable. I'd like to do a lot of alternate costume and hair style stuff.
Developing games is easy
Developing good games is hard
cute, was she always low poly?
Oh no, in fact she won't be low poly in the upcoming demo either. Right now we only have her ordinary model animated. The low poly is a planned feature, not a finished one.
GameMakerStudio 2 is good for 2d but not that easy sometimes. Stay away from JS for games unless you want too make a browser game.
>start out highly motivated
>do half the game in the first few weeks
>play through it 300 times
>start procrastinating
>decide the graphics could be better
>spend weeks changing graphics
>come up with a new feature
>spend weeks recoding to include new feature
>decide all the code is messy and recode practically everything to clean it up
>realize nothing of value has been added in months
>go through a new wave of motivation
>complete 40% more of the the actual game
>play through it another 700 times and create a bug list
>game is bug now and takes a while to compile
>realize you've spent no time promoting it online
>post on some forum
>no one cares
>years of work for nothing
oh I see, I like low poly
Me too, and I'm very, very impressed by the work of the person we're working with for our low poly models. He made this very popular "Breath of the Wild 64" trailer about a year ago, I think that's what most people who recognize his work know him from.
Start by posting screenshot instead of animes
I might have to redo my character in a style like that. shes pretty rough looking now
you will also be relwntlessy stalked by jealous schizos if your game is actually good
they're larping
by women he means trans. it is still not possible to code a game via selfie pics
actually no. shit games and good games take the same amount of effort
If only you knew
Has any woman ever programmed a game by herself? No bullshit engines.
theres atleast one woman here.
