And as for the topic of the thread in general, they've written these races as culturally complex for years now. Being evil doesn't mean one-dimensional. They have reasons for their actions. Orcs are warlike, and drow feel wronged from their past. As a people they generally feel this way. They usually follow evil gods. Why WotC thinks blacks relate to this I don't know.

As a byline for authors this is how you should write your folk of the world if they're in any way close to human thinking.

But I don't really know why in-setting lore should fucking matter in an RP. Don't want your orcs to be the Tolkien evil ones? Change it. Don't want your Drow to be BDSM fetish material, change it. Those are just Tolkien baselines and Old DnD material for you to use if you want.

Set it in another world, another time, and just use the stat-blocks and basic construction. RPs are literally the most flexible table-top gaming medium you can take part in.

You have stilted and mediocre works pumped out following stale corporate and ideological guidelines, the equivalent of checking off boxes in the creativity required. Every single one of you has the potential to start a creative revolution. Take the chance! Not only that but they even have Eilistraee for chaotic good drow. They have options. The people themselves are subjugated in their own society. They are maybe more inclined to do evil as a race but it isn't unheard of. There are tons of examples of neutral or good drow. Not only in Drizzt's series where there are tons. Liriel Baenre got a pretty good trilogy of books that show transition from traditional drow society to actually being a decent person.
