Holy fuck why is this so good? I'm not even joking this is one of the best 2D platformers i've played. Any other great metroidvanias like it? I own guacamelee but never touched it.
Hollow Knight
I thought that until I decided to go for the good ending, it was absolutely not worth it, about 1/10th of the way through the game you get your final mechanic in both combat and platforming
I recently beat Troupe Master Grimm. A nice distraction but once I was done with it I was back to my main problem: I don't know where the fuck to go. I got one Dreamer (Herrah), don't know how to get to the other two. I'm not gonna look up a guide though, I'll keep wandering around until I find something.
I love Hollow Knight just as much as the next not retarded user, but it's certainly not a great platformer, it's an amazing exploration and boss killing game. N++ and Celeste are far better 2d platformers. As for other great metroidvanias, I've only found Ori and the will of the Wisps to be of similar quality and it also has really good movement.
>guacamelee
its a great game, the sequel is fine too, though neither of those is exactly like hk, for that you'll have to wait for silksong
there's like 5 bosses tho
Here are slight hints:
One dreamer is to the west, surrounded by many strange colored plants, the other rests below the blue lake
Controls on PC are shit. Should I grab a controller?
The dreamers are literally marked on the map. He probably can't get to the other two because he doesn't have the necessary upgrades.
Hollow knight is focused on combat, while Ori is focused on movement and visuals. It's up to you, which one your prefer, but I found both to be very good at challenging and engaging gameplay, as well as fun to explore.
Damn, I really thought they aren't marked, because the user sounded like he had difficulties in finding them. Been a while since I played.
I can't imagine playing this on keyboard, it definitely works better on controller.
Pretty much what said. Every path I try to take is unavailable. I'm missing an upgrade that lets me swim on hot water I guess because there's a path that goes somewhere that seems near one of the Dreamers but it's a small hole with hot water, and an upgrade that lets me dash upwards/double jump, unless those too-high-to-reach platforms are just one-way drops and the actual entrances are somewhere else I'm not finding.
I have the mantis claw, the crystal dash, and the ground slam (the dark one now, though I haven't found a use for it, it doesn't dispel the dark barriers).
to get the good ending you have to have less abilities???
I don't like the map
I enjoyed both a great deal but Hollow Knight has very shallow combat all things considered, even the badges gave little variety, you do the same thing the whole game and it's dull when the enemies are just the same as older bosses with more health and speed but you have nothing new to enjoy fighting them with
What are you even talking about
If you have crystal dash, you have what you need to get the upgrades that let you get to the remaining two dreamers.
Light spoiler:
One upgrade you need is in the Royal Waterways
The other is in the Ancient Basin
Heavy spoiler:
Royal Waterways has a long area that you need to crystal dash through which should let you access a new area that gives you the acid-swimming upgrade, that will let you reach the dreamer in Fog Canyon
Ancient Basin also has a long area that you crystal dash across. On the other side there is a boss and beating it will give you double jump, which lets you reach the dreamer in the City of Tears, among other things.
Attempt number 2 at hinting:
From the city, go down and explore as much as possible. Both answers are there
True, Hollow Knight doesn't have complex combat, but that's completely fine. I can't really give advice for making normal enemy encounters more interesting, but there are many charm (badge) combinations that create different playstyles foe bosses. Also HK combat is far more reliant on boss attacks and finding ways to hit bosses more when they are attacking.
I'm iffy on it. I like the mechanics but the actual look of the map is inconsistent and sometimes atrocious, also not a fan of how your map doesn't update until you go to a bench. If I own the map for an area it should save my progress until I get into a new area that I don't own the map of
Genuine question for people that enjoyed HK. Have you played any Metroid or Igavania?
I've played Super Metroid and SOTN and liked Hollow Knight better than both.
>liked Hollow Knight better than both.
for any reason outside of aesthetic?
one of the most overrated games I have ever played. I'm sick of fucking reddit tourists wanking off this newgrounds piece of shit
Played Metroid, Super Metroid, SotN, and Bloodstained. I liked HK more than all of those, with the exception of Super Metroid which is on par. I really wish Super Metroid was a longer game though.
HK is bigger, has more content, controls better and has better combat. Aesthetically I probably liked SOTN the best out of those three.
>REDDIT REDDIT REDDIT U R REDDIT
opinion discarded. Get some new material then come back to me.
yes, why?
I have respect for people who can do the Pantheon of Hallownest. I just don't have the patience, I start zoning out and making stupid mistakes. I could take breaks during the run but it feels like cheating, you gotta do it in 1 uninterrupted run.
I want Silksong.
try Terraria OP
Ori?
If you liked that try momodora 4
This game is awesome, I really like it.
But I had to read online on how to call the Circus.
I think that there should have been a NPC that would hint you on that.
You expect someone to tell the truth on the internet user? I want to see the justification for one weapon.
