For me it died when the "left behind" dlc launched and the biggest twist of that DLC was when ellie kissed her female friend
i knew they were gonna force lesbian ellie pretty fucking hard in the future and say "look, LOOK at ellie and her girlfriend arent we progressive guys?", despite they were gonna do a disservice to actual lesbian couples and have ellie and whoever was gonna munch her carpet be the most stereotypical lesbians ever and look where we are now
