Yes. It's the best story and characters in SMT/Persona, but the combat is not great (only Pandora and the Night Queen quest line is even remotely hard) and lame people hate the the crab walking dungeons.

P1 is unironically the best in the series it's all down hill from here. Sure the gameplay gets more refined in later games but the soul is gone.

If you're looking for a waifu and friend simulator, you're going to be disappointed.
If you're looking for an interesting story that handles depression, nihilism, and psychology in an interesting way, you'll like it.
The gameplay is a little rough, but it's worth it.
Use the psp patch to restore the old sountrack. The new one is hot fucking garbage.

I don't like it, tried to played it but the gameplay is just so boring, and the plot even if it's decent to good with some interesting themes didn't hooked me. Give it a try and if you don't like the gameplay read the story or something.
You can also play on an emulator and abuse cheats and saves to make it easier to get through.

But Persona 2 is worse than 1's gameplay and while Persona 5's is technically way better than them all, it never does anything at all with it and infact gives you multiple options to skip it outright.

How's the combat different to 2? I've yet to play 1 but I found 2's fighting to be okay just really slow, also how does summoning stuff work in 1? I found it annoying having to get loads of cards just to summon stuff from each arcana

i remember dropping it after like 4-5h, maybe if you're into that type of games it's good but the whole game revolved around walking in first person through a dungeon and fighting random encounters, the story wasn't that interesting from what i can recall, the music was 10/10 though
