Before I start with the information available to me I ask that whoever reads this takes it with a grain of salt as this is just what Ive been told ;).
Title is undecided so it is likely not the 30th anniversary sorry.
The story involves an energy surge on South Island that draws the attention of Sonic and Tails as well as Dr. Eggman. By the time Sonic and Tails arrive in the tornado there is a battle already happening. A new Metal Sonic has appeared from a parallel timeline where Dr. Eggman won. This is an attempt to address generations questionable use of time travel. Sonic nicknames this new bot “SlipStream” Whose primary goal is to use the chaos emeralds to merge his dead robotic world with Sonics in a vain attempt to save this home. There seems to be a sort of twisted tunnel vision with slipstream. Later it is revealed that slipstream is the Sonic of this other world who had been robotized.
Important to mention this is the human world and I’m pleased with the attempt to show continuity. In the cut scene where slipstreams world approaches Sonics we get a good look at the dark side of the moon and it is in fact missing. The final battle takes place in Green Hill Zone with the other planet taking up the entirety of the sky as a chaos emerald powered generator pulls it to earth. Eggman has taken a backseat as people complained that him being the final boss every time was repetitive.
The gameplay is open world. She said it was like if breath of the wild had a sonic spin.
There are four main playable characters. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow. And E-123 Omega in 1 mission were Shadow is hurt and you blow you’re way off of slipstreams warship. Sonic and shadow control like normal, Knuckles is a beat em up, and Tails can use a plethora of upgradable gadgets.
This game will take roughly 8 hours to complete. And Segas current riders are not involved in this. May or may not be a certain IDW writer ooohohohohoooooo.
That story is stupid enough to be believable. You really botched it up with the gameplay though. Sonic Team is never going to touch anything even removely related to Adventure

Sega does not give two shits about the quality of the games' writing. Every time you mention this in a leak it gives you away immediately. In fact this problem has gotten so bad that I just skim the tl;dr leak and see if the word "writing" is in there, and if it is, I discard it as fake. Like I did here.
God please no Sega just let Sonic die. I've never seen a character or franchise get so buttfucked repeatedly by devs, fans and jaded boomers alike. Just end it all.
Fans wanted more adventure, and we got 06 out of it, the worst game of all time. Fans wanted a darker game again for whatever reason, and what did we get out of it? Forces, the worst game Sonic Team has made since 06. I think they should just stop listening to fans and stick to games like Colors.
