str builds are easier than dex or arcane/blood since they are slower weapons with simpler moves. good for new players
I legit gave up trying new weapons like 3/4ths through the game and just stuck with it through everything including Chalice and DLC, so I'd say so. I couldn't ever find a gun I liked though.

saw cleaver is the most broken shit in any miyazaki game
every weapon is easy mode because spamming R1 heals you after you get hit
thats not always enough though, enemies can stun you during spam or grab you.
It's literally the best halberd-type weapon in the entire series, even better than 3's Splitleaf

It's a pretty damn good weapon and definitely the easiest starter weapon to use.
But you can go through the game with any weapon you want. The important question when picking a weapon is "is this weapon fun to use?"
And the answer to that is always "Nope, not as fun as the Boom Hammer".

There's low level quality (25STR/25SKL)
There's STR quality (50STR/25SKL)
There's SKL quality (25STR/50SKL)
There's full quality (50STR/50SKL)
You almost always want to have 25 points in opposing physical stat for a ton of additional scaling.
The only exception is pure STR since there's insane STR scaling gems that compensate for low SKL scaling entirely.

This weapon is unbelievably shitty. It basically got outplayed by amygdalan arm at its own main gimmick of having an extreme long range knockdown slam. Otherwise it has worse moveset across the board.
Cleaver is easiest if you know how to play BB at its core. It shits damage uses less stamina has less startup and lasts all game at its heights. Its also the best starter weapon for gay ass PVP in BB so i guess that is a point too. The axe is just good to start with because its conceptually the easiest and has the spin.
Beast Cutter -> Stake Driver -> Everything else.
I'd actually say that for pvp the axe is way fucking better than cleaver because of insane amount of mixups it can pull to catch shitters on dodges and punish them for literally every action.
Cleaver only has r1 spam on its side which can be countered by any competent player.

the idea of it's cool but in practice you have 1 form be a shitty weapon and have the other incentivise cheesing everything when the game otherwise encourages aggressive combat
I wish there were more neat things to do with bows in From games across the board. Remember how Genichiro jumped backward or sideways and machinegunned 4 or 5 arrows off? Why can't we do that?
