Did someone say they were going to fix the PC version of this?
Persona
There are a couple of anons who have started working on an undub version of the PC version, yes.
Very early stages, but last I heard they were making progress. Not sure if it's a couple working together, or independent, but a few days ago one had some progress to show.
I'm looking at you hexanon. I know you'll see this.
Oh, that's cool to hear. Never played the original Personas before, but I've heard the PSP releases were a bit wonky with soundtrack changes and censorship so this would be nice to have.
The localization changes only happened in the original PS1 version. Atlus USA changed character and location names, as well as portraits to appeal to a western audience more.
The PSP version is the one with the soundtrack changes. There's a patch to restore most of the original songs, but it's not 100% because the PSP version has a smaller OST, and apparently it's hell to code additional track space.
The anons in threads over the last week or so have been talking about fixing the PC version as well as undubbing Persona 2: Eternal Punishment and removing he Atlus USA references to the localized character names.
Right now, if you don't feel like waiting, I'd suggest the PSP version with the music restoration patch.
Mark is black! BLACK!
some user was trying to tranlate the '99 pc release
Me waste time on Zig Forums? Never.
I've gotten myself to grips with a lot of the common tools for PS1 hacking in the past few days, I've extracted the FMVs with dialogue and gonna try adding subs to them and slapping them back in game.
As far as the in game text, I'm a bit stuck. I mentioned before I'll need to rebuild the disc if I'm doing anything that'll change the file size but even rebuilding the vanilla files is proving to be challenging.
Not impossible, it'll just take a lot of research elsewhere to fully get to grips with what I need to do. Tried trawling old forums to see if Gemini documented anything about his Innocent Sin hacking for the translation, but haven't found much.
Ah, thank you. I didn't realise the original release of the first game was tampered with so intimately. Besides the music, is the PSP version generally considered superior gameplay wise?
Mark was /ourguy/ all along
>this is the guy calling things soulless on Zig Forums
based
Ay, there he is. Fancy seeing you here.
Seems like you're keeping busy, that's good to see.
I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to PS1 tools, but following Gemini's trail might help out. You could also try contacting cj_iwakura on twitter, as I believe they've been involved with a few PS1 translations over the years. They're also a point of contact for the Devil Summoner and EP PSP translation hacks that have been on hiatus for awhile.
Not sure if it'll help, but they might have some advice or places to look to.
>cj
just don't try to remove all the japanese elements from p1 while you're at it, user
It's the only Mark image I had saved..
The PSP version had a few quality of life improvements, yes. Maybe another user can tell you what those were, I can't remember.
But the PSP version does include the SQQ route, which was an entirely separate storyline removed from the original. Based on that alone..
I can't remember, but who was the translator who was adamantly removing honorifics because he hated them?
that'd be cj, if you're talking about the eternal punishment translation
CJ's handling the Devil Summor translation? How long has that been in the works?
I can't remember if they're handling the Devil Summoner translation or not. I don't know if they'r even involved with it.
But like I said, I know they're a contact point for whoever is doing it at the very least, because updates were posted on their twitter.
I say "were posted" because December last year, cj posted something like "don't expect any updates on Devil Summoner or EP PSP for awhile" and mentioned several people being on hiatus.
I know the Devil Summoner PSP script has been translated, but hasn't been implemented into the actual ISO yet.
In that case I'll definitely go PSP so I have all the content. Not having the full OST will be a shame but it's a small price to pay, thanks user
>eternal punishment translation
Will it ever be out at this point?
no
Thought so
I see, I recall reading that the hacker he was working with either ran into a major roadblock or just gave up entirely. Atlus games in English seem to have hex placed on them, I swear.
is there an archive thread or a general one to keep tabs on this?
Sure thing. Keep in mind the additional content is an different route, so it would require 2 playthroughs to see everything.
As for the OST, the music patch only restores the songs for the SEBEC route I believe. It's not perfect, but the PS1 version doesn't even have the other route, so what can you do.
Best you can do for now is play through once with the patch, then listen to the rest of the OST on youtube after. It's top notch.
>no progress in over two years
>entire script done, but the romhacker in charge keeps changing
>the guy in charge memes about it never getting done
i'll be speedrunning smt nine in ukrainian before psp eternal punishment is translated
I'd say this'll probably be the last time I say anything public until I have something substantial to show.
I don't want to spend thread after thread getting anons hopes up only to run into a definitive road block and leave everyone with the catharsis of a wet fart. As far as other anons and their personal projects, I'm unsure but there's probably a reason they were posting as anons rather than elsewhere.
didn't some user say the PC version was basically impossible to hack unless you were a genius programmer on the level of Battle Programmer Shirase?
It's been at least 5 years, i don't remember the name of the dude that was translating it before giving up and handling it to iwakura, but Jesus. Fuck
fair enough. cheers to you.
Not as far as I know. Just a few anons that pop up when a P1 thread happens, myself included.
The only one I've seen resurface is the hexanon working on the EP undub.
You can search the archive for a P1 thread within the last week or so. At least one user dropped a temp email to contact if you can offer assistance with the project.
if you see a project online, and either esperknight, cj iwakura or gemini are involved, it will simply never get done
some of these people are stuck in 2004 mentality where you can get e-fame by promising fan translations you'll never deliver, they don't realize it doesen't even work anymore because nobody gives a fuck
most actual fan translators and hackers nowadays are completely anonymous or at least mostly silent online, possibly because they fear getting "cancelled" like translatortom
In short, if you see a fan translation being "announced", give up hope immediately
you can't fix a shit game like persona 1
Is Gemini really under a similar umbrella? From what I saw he tends to finish what he starts, even if money is the motivator on some of the projects like RE Classic Rebirth.
I'm still mad about what happened to Tom. Fucking niggers and unironic trannies, fuck them all.
>translatortom
i'm still mad about what happened to him
>spend countless hours giving highly sought after translations for free
>get abused by an angry mob who probably don't realise he was the reason some of their favourite games came overseas
How did things get this bad?
under no circumstances should you underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups
