A person sits down and has to write out everything that happens. In visual mediums, they're usually the director or very involved with what the viewer sees, because they're writing the script. The script isn't thrown together without any thought, that leads to bad, meaningless art. So, before they write, they think of a theme or motif to base their work around, and then they write about that. Then, they do extensive editing, as the first draft is never what makes it to print.
