How do we fix the horror genre?
How do we fix the horror genre?
You can't. Shock horror games are shit. Just make everything Lovecraft and it will be fun.
Make everything super sexy. I pay attention to sexy things. I can only be spooked if I'm paying attention. Modern horror is so boring I barely keep track of what's going on.
horror games are only as scary as the player is willing to be scared, the 5th horror game you play will not be scary. this is why amnesia is regarded widely as a good horror game because it was many people's first
Make it real life.
Make more games like Alien Isolation
Body horror is repulsive. Need to add more trannies
>Make more games like Alien Isolation
So boring and reliant on enemy AI that’s retarded?
The Alien AI is some of the most sophisticated artificial intelligence in any game, ever. You’re just bad at the game lmao
I want a game that mixes real threats with imagined ones, like as a result of your character losing sanity. Something where you can't really know (at a glance) if an apparition behind or in front of you is real, but if it is, you have to kill it quickly or else it instantly murders you. However, ammo is extremely scarce and you can't afford to just shoot at whatever visions you happen to have, so you actually have to face the horrors and try to distinguish if they're real or not so as to converse your ammo and your life.
Is there any game like this?
>The Alien AI is some of the most sophisticated artificial intelligence in any game, ever.
Play more games if you honestly think that.
Name some
name 5
jump scares, creepy low res monsters you don't see till a cutscene where they catch you and you die. puzzle elements involving RNG.
also, get matpat to make like a billion videos about your garbage
...
add shitting and pissing mechanics to make player feel more vulnerable
I am hoping Frictional learned their lesson from Soma and the next game isn't terrible.
Have like, 10 years of literally zero scary or creepy games
>10 years
>literally zero scary or creepy games
Did you like any part about soma at all?
I don't know if it's true, but I thought the devs admitted that the stupid stealth gameplay was tacked on at the last minute and that the game's "Safe Mode" was actually how they intended to sell it at first.
But walking sims are bad.
The storytelling is great and I like their themes/creativity, the game part was just meh.
*AHEM*
Use the F.E.A.R method, but better
You misinterpreted my post
Stop relying on jump scares. They work once and then thats it. People may be conditioned to them, to fucking scary clowns, and spooky ghosts/spooky imagery, but good horror still does well, but unfortunately, not pure horror
You'd probably need to hard reset peoples expectations of the game, do a hard bait and switch with your marketing and pull a Spec Ops the Line. Appeal to a broader audience, give them the flash and drama they want for that first 2 hours, then do what you want. Pulling the rug immediately might be a bad idea, but needed if you can time it just right with the introduction that something is wrong, building that atmosphere without the player realizing because the second they think they're playing a horror game, the surprise is ruined. Unless you can play off that fear that they know something is wrong, and never let them fully realize whats happening or when its going to switch
So what you're looking at is
>Immersion
>Pissing off your player base and killing your sales because people are pussies
>Atmosphere
>Actively avoiding jump scares. You get one and thats it
>Not letting the Japanese develop it
>Nor any foreign developer
> Game must be something that'd appeal to western sensibilities
> No camp. Period
>Limited player agency, limited player ability to "fight back" against monsters
Spec Ops the Line might be the model game you'd look at. Take away more the philosophical elements and you have a horrible, deeply unsettling game about PTSD and the Ordinary Men effect
sooo HR Giger tier stuff?
That'll do. If I'm looking at the walls with a hard on something can sneak up behind me.
You meant the Dead Space 3
Why were there fucking ninjas in FEAR anyway?
Pretty much immersion and atmosphere is my biggest issue
>whats wrong with the japanese
>they made all the best horror games
>they built their games on tension
>i smell a bit of racism
>reconmends boring twist TPS
>is basicly same shit as TLOU2
>but less shock value
slow-burn
atmospheric
psychological
and no jumpscares
Fix yourself Faggot
Make them actual video games again and not walking simulators in pitch black with epic eceleb jumpscares.
No zombies or monsters
The enemies are those creepy 3d models from adult games
