I just finished Fire Emblem Awakening. Anyone wanna discuss it? Here are my shit opinions
>The game has some great character designs and they're extremely likeable >It looks fantastic and has a great overall art style. >Lots of content and it doesn't overstay its welcome >The story does nothing to really for the characters. They all feel side lined except Chrom, Lucina and Robin. >Story starts off decently but feels rushed and repetitive towards the end.
It does feel a bit dated now but it's still a solid entry and I'm glad it saved the series.
It should never have saved fire emblem and it still amazes me it did to this day

>awakening Shit game >reliant on a large amount of random chance. Dual guard, dual attack, random enemy skills, all on top of already unreliable hit/evade/crit and many skills that have a random activation chance >second seals resetting your level allowing infinite levels, even worse is your internal level can get high enough to only get 8 exp per kill on higher difficulties, meaning it isn't a good grind game either >Weapon durability is negligible like usual due to the plethora of gold and weapons dropped >children units either end up broken or worthless due to no scaling >removed all the good kinds of staves from the series. no sleep, berserk, warp, etc >CAN BUY RESCUE STAFFS AT A VERY LOW PRICE FOR INFINITE AMOUNTS AND HAS A LOW RANK >many open maps with minimal terrain/choke points. once your units have gotten enough experience under their belts for them to overwhelm the enemies with pure stats and the very powerful pair up mechanic even on luantic and L+ >there's a major skill imbalance problem in the game, most are dogshit outside of OP ones like galeforce since it focuses on the most important element of gameplay and and shit like Vantage + Vengeance + Wrath >no tactical skill, game is EP focused and all about tanking since 1-2 range is supreme >only has two objectives, Rout the Enemy and Kill Commander, leading to repetitive gameplay. there's No defend, No Seize, No Arrive, nothing. And it's not like there's that many side objectives as well. Villages are few and far in between, there aren't too many meaningful drops or chests and recruitment is limited to run Chrom up and Talk >on the rare occasion you'll get an indoor map, but which is also very open with enemies crammed into every nook and cranny This isn't even the extent of Awakenings problems like no weight so higher tier weapons is outright superior to each other with no downsides at all
It definitely does a few things right but they left a lot behind as well. The writing and story went downhill big time compared to the older games, and much of the map design isn't so great. Additionally, a lot of the art is terrible IMO. Everyone has no fucking feet, and this game probably has the ugliest knights in the series. I'd do anything to get the badass GBA knights and generals. But the characters are good, the supports are fun and the children add a lot to the game. The fleshed out custom tactician is probably my favorite part, since it fixed the absurd self-insert thing that they had in blazing sword by replacing it with something far, far better.

>Husband's name was lost to time
That's fucked up.
Owen Cox
I do agree about the knights/generals. They looked pretty terrible but the peg legs never bugged me. I felt it was a really nice transition/update to 3D. PoR/RD/SD all looked fucking awful and Three Houses is a huge regressions as well. I was hoping for Three Houses to look something like the cutscenes in the 3DS games but it looks like a GameCube game along with mediocre to downright terrible character portraits/designs.

I was replaying this game not long ago, I should finish it
I tried starting awakening a few times, but I couldn't decide which characters I wanted to focus on and pair together every time. The options were overwhelming. I'm used to the older fire emblems.
I feel like you can get stuck like that in every game because the party ends up being so huge. I tend to make my decisions ahead of time. Although I didn end up with three bad pairings but oh well.
Colton Brooks
>>The story does nothing to really for the characters. They all feel side lined except Chrom, Lucina and Robin. welcome to fire emblem the side characters actually get more screentime than average in awakening. give the tellius duology a shot if you want a more involved cast.
>take rescue, a balanced and fun mechanic from previous FE games, and replaced the stat debuffs with buffs what the fuck were they thinking
Justin Hall
I personally have a fun time with it because any unit can be realized to full potential. There are other FE games where I'd like to use a dork, but their statlines and potential is just so bad. That problem doesn't exist with awakening.
That's true. I guess it just felt a bit different to me. In awakening for the first several missions you get like 2 or 3 new characters every mission. I would settle for a character or pairing only for new ones to come along so quickly. It would feel bad because I had already given a lot of experience to the characters I couldn't fit into the core party. Maybe I should just play one normal for the first playthrough instead of hard. I imagine it does help a lot to plan your party and pairings out beforehand. I just thought it might spoil the surprises for some characters.
I'm going to be completely honest, there should be no shame in you going a round normal. FE, even the easier ones like Awakening, can still absolutely fuck over even old players if they don't have a good grasp on how each individual game works.
John Brooks
awakening feels like a sandbox game made for people who like fucking around creating extremely broken characters in different ways. almost more like disgaea or something than a traditional FE.
Landon Watson
1 one shot the final boss on turn 2 the game is very broken, but it's ok
Joseph Perez
Why would you post a blank picture?
Ian Brown
Yeah, you're probably right. I'll just start on normal next time I give it a try. Thanks for listening.
Isaiah Young
>1 one shot the final boss on turn 2 honestly most FE final bosses are jokes I think Ashera is the only good one
Austin Carter
>Chrom >Likeable Only stupid fujo/shippers girls love him
IMO just pair up whoever you want because it's not really a big deal. You can always pair up different people in subsequent playthroughs. Just don't worry about it so much and replay the game a hundred times like I have.
>that scene where they find out MC will kill Chrom and Lucina wants to kill him Shit on FE:A all you want but its writing was probably best of the series. Likeable characters and a couple scenes like this tug on your heartstrings.
Pair up may not be a balanced mechanic but it sure feels great when your dragon wife saves you from taking damage
Brody Young
Make sure to give her plenty of hugs and kisses after the battle and hold her hand!
Alexander Rogers
>play as Fem Robin >Lucina has to kill her mom to save her dad and the future Although I do like it if you also play as Fem Robin and don't marry Chrom too just because of how much Lucina hates the Fem Robin that isn't her mom.
