No, but it's worth pirating.
I got it with a slight discount. It's good as a game but the programming is shitful complete with them fucking up the updater.
how will we get more niche games if we aren't willing to support niche devs.
Who cares, I'm getting free stuff.
so you're a leech, sucking the lifeforce out of gaming.
What is this?
Looks interesting, what the fuck is it?
the newest slitherine/Matrix game (the people who brought you Distant Worlds). its a post apocalyptic 4x set in the far future when a vast interstellar empire collapsed, nuking countless planets and you play as a faction of survivors within one of those nuked planets trying to take over the world.
>slitherine/Matrix game (the people who brought you Distant Worlds
Nigga, that's all you had to day. I played the shit out of DW. How is this new game?
it looked fun based on the videos I saw on YT but I haven't played it myself yet so cant say. thats why I made the thread to get input.
just say the fucking name retard
Shadow Empire
What game?
It's very good but also very dense. It allows for different playstyles from what I've seen given that youtubers have entirely different takes on how to play than what has worked for me.
There's something to do in every segment of the game: political intrigue and faction management, economic and civil management, war stuff, leader micromanagement around interpersonal shit and their stats
If you can be fucked to learn the basics of every system the game is extremely fun, especially once you focus in on what you like. You can't really get away with ignoring systems though.
Yes
>It's very good but also very dense
>You can't really get away with ignoring systems though.
so that 300+ manual they also released is mandatory? or can you learn as you go
Yeah it's great, been playing it non-stop since release.
I should add that personally I prefer politics and science. The combat and economy are just an extension of my progress in those fields. Cbf about my war front positioning past it being solid and all my attention on spamming beaurocratic points at my scientists so I can make the perfect soldier, not just with the perfect equipment or anything gay like that but perfectly trained and conditioned.
Also logistics is a MASSIVE feature of the game. I like it, gives you something to think about when war turns into a massive line of troops.
You can learn as you go but I didn't like that much. I could play but I kept seeing shit that didn't make sense. Then I'd figure it out and realise that if I'd done that hours ago my campaign would be in a much better place. I ended up watching DAS's tutorials up until the city siege on x2 speed. That's about all you really need to know. Reading the manual is even better than that, obviously but I was lazy.
Just a warning if you do what I did, some of Das' advice is fucking stupid and he gets stuff wrong here and there. The general vibe is right and even if you don't pick up on what he did wrong you will quickly if you play the game.
Again it works on play styles. He's straight up wrong about structure points and he's wrong in my opinion about keeping people happy instead of pushing a regime profile.

The majority of the manual is in-depth math on how the systems work, the part which just explains how to get started playing is relatively brief, finished it in one sitting. The game also offers plentiful tooltips. I can count the times I had to go to /vg/ or manual because I couldn't figure it out in-game on my hand.
>pushed into your lines and a hex away from your roads
What the fuck are you doing?
>some of Das' advice is fucking stupid
Such as?
He doesn't know the difference between demands and promises and generally has no idea about the political side of things.
He suggests taking every leader that gets demanded of you when really you should favour factions that fit your profile and just recruit normally otherwise.
He fucks up structure and basic points in model generation
Just little shit like that. In his factions vid he straight up says 'fuck I should have actually researched this'
He's an ace at what he likes, which is all the military stuff but spotty on the other systems.
There was a blob of another unrelated regime, it disappeared suddenly when it was conquered by another one, so a few enemy squadrons leaked through. I low how intelligent the AI is, always taking opportunities like that.
I'll keep that in mind, thanks.
I like it a lot, but I just can't get good at Regular difficulty. Easy was fun, but on Regular, I constantly get swarmed by minor powers. I'm also starved for metal and oil. I've got a good handle on most of the mechanics though.
>another 4x game
When are they going to step up to the plate and kill Paradox's monopoly on grand strategy?
When I say starved for oil, I don't mean on this planet. I'm pretty sure this game was on Easy.
I'm not sure they could take on Paradox. if they start resisting Paradox might just buy them out.
It's not just a 4x. For me it feels like a mix between Hoi (huge death stacks and very detailed unit stats, creation (yes, you research different weapons, armors, engines, etc and then construct units and their mixes (infantry, mg, arty, light/med/heavy tanks, trucks, bikes, etc), Vic (lots of management of resources, production etc), ck (lots of interpersonal relations with your vassals) and uh, obviously 4x
It really is a great game. The only things you could say that are bad about it is that the programming is weak like how things pop and flash strangely. The updater being broken on release was also pretty fucked.
The good news is that none of the bugs actually affect the gameplay at all.
The creator suggested that vets like Das and Tort played on regular because he was worried they would get murked. It's MEANT to be a hard game.
>like how things pop and flash strangely
Never seen anything like that, can you show any examples? The only two bugs I've seen are all units becoming one color during the round resolution a couple of times and map screen doubling thing right after. Both are cosmetic only though and have been patched since.
>Another boring 4X
>Not just going for pure wargame
Yaaaaawn
It's on occasion and especially in the management menu. It's no drama and you could miss it if you weren't looking.
>muh sub-genre
It's a good game and that's all that really matters.
It's a pure wargame with tons of extras.
Regular difficulty, I was doing okay and taking over the SW city's previous owner, when gray counter invaded me, swept up and through, and crushed my forces. They took the city that I'd just take one or two turns ago. Their invasion cut-off supply to all my units on the front, and they were almost helpless. I lost a lot of forces, but was able to pull some back, and with some advanced new units, establish a new line. The green shows pretty much what I'd had, and the red is the sudden gray's attack.
