I feel bad for learning japanese because I like things to be told like they are in the sentence they are meant to convey things. The japanese love to omit information but the funny thing is that after they do that immediately some explanation follows, I just don't get why you wouldn't just directly tell how it is.

The main issue with this is that Japanese is condensed, every 2 English letters roughly correlate to one Japanese symbol. Technically it's higher than that even because you get shit like which converts FOUR symbols into one, and it's the main reason why text speed in video games is so fucked.

The text speed is designed with a system that's twice as efficient in mind. So when the lazy localiser doesn't bother upping the text display speed, you wind up with every speedrun ever being played in Japanese because you save 5 minutes over the course of a run with faster text.

The size of the textbox is also something people never take into account. What you can say with 2 lines of text in Japanese might take 3-4 to say in English, which means either you cut shit out to keep the lines brief so they can fit in the boxes, or you add line breaks that are ugly and can't work for the middle of sentences.

The actual information transfer rate of most languages is pretty much identical, because they all just increase or decrease the speed of speech to take up the slack. Japs actually speak faster than westerners, they cram the same amount of information into the same time frame, they just take more syllables to do it.

Shut the fuck up, retard. I have read tons of japanese and that's exactly how it is. The japanese assume their readers are retarded every single time and stretch the topic 3 times as long as normal so that everyone gets it.

You're also not going to fool anyone because even if you read a translation you notice that something is wrong with the script and the overall pacing is not the fault of the translator but the original script. Japanese is a fucking poorly designed language and it becomes more apparent every day I learn more.

The japanese text is shorter because they assume the reader is smart enough to understand the context.
Meanwhile the english assumes that the reader is dumb, and therefore has to add in why mario is a liar.

Depends on how good your memory is. If you're just average expect at least 2-3 years of learning till you can read easy texts relatively consistently with average speeds. Just realize it will take a long time and prepare yourself to grit your teeth even if progress comes slower than you think. No need to rush, as long as you keep at it you will learn it since it's just a language.

Japanese are retarded but you only need to learn about 2k of hieroglyphs for the entry level and about 3k to become native level. The other writing system, the kana, can be memorized in a couple of days but it will take months or even years to read them with good speeds. Katakana are just there for loanwords and emphasis while hiragana are there to write out words without needing to use outdated and obtusely used kanji and for the okurigana which are the kana that build words together with kanji.

Kanji have different pronunciations, one native reading and one chinese reading is used 99% of the time and many kanji have only one use but you will encounter exceptions all the time and will learn multiple readings anyway because japanese fictions makes up its own words with those readings and japanese names use uncommon readings all the time.
