i could go into a spiel about this but the point is she was handled well and didn't end up being reeeed about like some stupid fucking western mary sue, plus she took the time to talk about her feminine attributes in a positive and realistic light without bashing them for being a social fucking construct, such as when she reveals she betrayed her country because of her unborn child and touches upon her sadness because she was deprived of her feminimity
also MGS3 was good because despite setting up the boss as being snakes mentor and teaching him everything he knew, it knows enough to focus on the story being a bit of an awakening period for snake where he grows by his own merit and through his own abilities and choices, and not once does the boss claim any part in doing that
meryl was also introduced as being a tough immunity chick who don't need no man, but then she rapidly falls in love with snake and reveals it to be just a facade and that she's tired of pretending and pushing her feelings aside, revealing a softer and more vulnerable side to the angry bitchy exterior she was presenting, although MGS4 fucked with it a bit but it was all nanomachines fault and towards the end when they were gone, she immediately wanted a pretty dress and a wedding and to be a woman again
