Part that gets me is how unaware the Fireflies were of how strongly Joel's attachment to Ellie was. When Marlene has to explain to the surgeon why she'll let Joel know, it's not "she was basically his daughter now", it's "he traveled across the country with her". Like it was a road trip so they might have kinda been buddies.

If Joel would have used a condom none of this would have happened and he'd still be alive. His girlfriend aborting Sarah would have resulted in Joel never having a trauma because Sarah never would have been killed by that guy in the intro of the first game. So he would have never doomed humanity because of his selfish action to save Ellie because he didn't want to lose another "daughter".
