Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart creative director discusses PS5 advantages

(gematsu.com/2020/06/ratchet-clank-rift-apart-creative-director-discusses-ps5-advantages)

>Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is a game that utilizes dimensions and dimensional rifts, and that would not have been possible without the solid-state drive of the PlayStation 5. The SSD is screamingly fast. It allows us to build worlds and project players from one place to another in near instantaneous speeds. It is an unbelievable game changer in terms of, we can now do gameplay where you’re in one world, and the next moment you’re in another. We’re loading up levels that happen so quickly and in the action that you don’t even imagine that this is something we couldn’t do before because it feels so natural. Long gone are loading screens. Now it’s all about bringing exciting, new adventures.

>The DualSense Controller of the PlayStation 5 is tailor-made for Ratchet & Clank weaponry. The amount of tactile feedback that you get when you’re using our weapons is it makes them feel way more powerful, and also lets you know how the weapon is behaving. One of the examples of our weapons is The Enforcer. It’s like a double-barreled shotgun and it uses the adaptive triggers to give you tension. As you’re moving your finger down halfway, you can fire one barrel. If you pull it all the way down, you can fire both barrels. But all along the way, you can feel the difference between the tension tightening up, and it just makes all of our weapons much more immersive and powerful feeling.

>Another thing we can’t wait for you to experience is 3D spatial audio. This really is a fundamental difference between listening to a television set and going out into the middle of a forest. It brings you into these worlds in a way that you’ve never been able to do before.

If only they could go back and remaster DL with haptic feedback.

>targeting 30 fps
next gen here we come

No shit the new console is better/faster, that's why it's a new console. Most of the other shit like tactile feedback and 3d audio bs is just marketing speech anyway though.

Essentially, what they're saying is that we can now do what we could have done in 2010, if we had PC hardware. And we added a few gimmicks to wow the plebs.

I've had a 120+ hz display for, I dunno more than 5 years at least, even 60hz looks bad to me now. When will consolelets learn?

>Long gone are loading screens.
Meanwhile the trailer was filled with loading screens

where?

Attached: Ea5uqP7XsAAO1i0.jpg (2048x1463, 333.14K)

Every single time Ratchet goes through a purple portal it loads a generic loading screen until the next level is loaded

b-but user, it doesn't SAY loading and there isn't a progress bar so it isn't a loading screen!

wow a 5 second long transition effect between levels. Imagine actually taking issue with this.

>next level loads in a second or two while watching generic portal loading screen
>groundbreaking and revolutionary
welcome to what we've been doing on PC for more than a decade consolefags
>tfw you miss important information that was baked into loading screens because you never saw them

>Meanwhile the trailer was filled with loading screens
You fackin wat m8.

Calling that purple realm a loading screen is a bit of a stretch considering how organic all the movement in and out of it was.
Sure it's used to load the next area but it's a significant step up from a big black screen with a loading bar or an elevator ride.
If it gets downgraded on release to show a generic animation each time or drags for more than a couple seconds then i'll agree with you.

I TURNED MYSELF INTO A PICKLE

Can you name any pc games that are doing stuff like this? It literally doesnt matter how good the hardware is if games arent actually using any of it.

Literally any PC game run off an SSD has loading screens that are equivalent to those portal jumps (I counted around 2-4 seconds on average)

Seriously though this has to be a joke right ? Is it because maybe players would be too disturbed by the change or something ? I assume 4k will be the target given how low this framerate is.

Why do companies always brag about rumble every generation? They did that shit for the PS4 and Nintendo did it for Switch even though they are the same as every other rumble

How many more decades do you think it'll take before consoles hit 60?
Dunno, it was cool during PS1/N64. Analog buttons was the wank during PS2, the only game I remember using it was MGS2. I guess they just ran out of cool shit to talk about. It's exactly the same as last gen, but faster.

so... is she a girl or a tranny?

DELETE THESE POSTS AND RUN user
SONY IS SENDING THEIR DRONES TO YOUR LOCATION RIGHT NOW

You can clearly see stutters whenever Ratchet goes in a different dimension. The demo isn’t anything to write about

>It allows us to build worlds and project players from one place to another in near instantaneous speeds
just as I figured... the lightning fast SSD, but still mid tier CPU and GPU, means that this single gimmick has been made possible by the PS5. Bravo Sony! You can load levels and large objects instantly, but only have current gen assets running at 4k 30fps and the only ray tracing available will be reflections and shadows! whoopie!

Ace Combat used the analog buttons in a minor way, pressing the map display button harder zoomed in on it into your location

>he can’t like both

8th gen had(up to) 1080p, 30fps and cut global ilumination and ambient occlusion, 9th gen has (up to) 4K(checkerboarded), 30fps and cut down raytracing.

Great.

> PC's are so superior! We haven't had load screens for years!
>...guys... are there any Ps4 exclusives coming to PC...all I've got to play is light novels...
>...please...Bloodborne, Horizon, God of War... anything ... I'll suck your dick for an exclusive ...
>...PC master race ...

I figured it would go incrementally, from 30 to 45 and then 60 by PS7 maybe.

It’s a girl and they will just say that angela got her tail cut off or something. Where did the only males have tails even come from ?

Thanks for the informative post, Fellow Gamer OP

Yeah, in MGS2 it was really minor too. I don't remember what it was, I think if you pressed the draw button soft you'd just draw but hard you'd draw and fire

This is your brain on sony cultism

>don't work at Arby's
>buy PC
>everything release with a PC version, play on PC
>also buy PS4 to play the 3 exclusives
you can have more than one. well, maybe not YOU but it is possible

All cool things. Thanks!

>wow super fast loadings so immersive
>but also have everything run at 30 hz because fuck your gameplay
The PS5 is a garbage construct.

Why is it still running at 30 fps though lmao

I think it would be more impressive as a demo if when you enter this rift space, you can dictate where you go and the game automatically loads it accordingly instead of falling through with the studio dictating what comes next.

I like pc aswell but nothing beats just laying on your bed and playing a jrpg or something on my PS4

what about that radio audio that says female lombaxes have no tails? its a retcon? devs with bad memories?
i actually never played ratchet and clank, but did they show any other female lombax besides angela?what happened to their race? why there is like only 4~5 lombaxes in the entire series? where are their cities and stuff?

Why is 30 FPS bad?

The title doesn't read like an ass pun enough to me.

Man I can't get a PS5 at launch just for Ratchet, I'll probably just watch on youtube.

Because highly detailed shit looks terrible at low framerate

Play some 60hz games and then come back and ask the same question. Loading times are meaningless compared to how ACTUAL GAMEPLAY runs.

They where hunted down by one of the villains in the game and moved to a different dimension to get away from him with a device they locked away.

This game hardly looks any better than the reboot aside from obnoxious particle effects pushed up the ass. When your "next-gen" console (that specifically is jerking off how powerful it is) can not run 60 fps on a cartoony game it doesn't look good.

Tranny Protagonist.
Nuff' said.

Rule #1 of the ratchet and clank universe the media is not a reliable source of news or information.

HDMI has been a thing for 15 years, all wireless controllers since PS3/360 have supported PC connectivity. Anything you can use a console for you can do on PC, too.

ratchetandclank.fandom.com/wiki/Percival_Tachyon

This is me back in 2010 when I realized PCs could do everything consoles did but better and more lmao

You can’t play all the PS4 games on pc.

screenrant.com/ps5-games-30-fps-why/
Next-gen games on PlayStation 5 will continue to have the option to run at 30fps, and although players may be asking why this is, there is a good reason for it. Consoles have been racing to redefine the future of gaming, and this is true for all consoles launched in the past. The PS4 mostly uses a frame rate of 30fps, with very few games having the option to run at 60fps, and the Xbox One is in the same place. One might assume that 60fps is the obvious next step for the developers to work towards, but a former software engineer explains why this isn't a feature that the PS5 strives for.

The PS5 will have a 16GB memory, 448GB/s memory bandwidth, 8x Zen 2 Cores at 3.5GHz CPU, 10.28 TFLOPs, and 36 CUs at 2.23GHz GPU. These are some impressive specs, improving on what even the PS4 Pro has under the hood, and the PS4 Pro can run some games more smoothly than ever before (take Assassin's Creed 3's looks in 4K or Battlefield 1's higher resolution). It has enhanced up-scaling techniques that can increase games' resolutions, but it can't do much about the frames per second. As it turns out, neither can the PS5 since its games don't even allow for this.

A former principal software engineer on the PS5 has given some insight into the constraints that keep the console from running games at 60fps as a standard. On WCCFTECH, Matt Hargett points out in a tweet that the problem is not with the console, but with players' TVs. He writes that a typical cheap 4K TV can only do 4:2:0 HDR at 4K and 60hz, but can push the HDR to 4:2:2 at 4K and 30hz. Most game developers would rather have their games look good in 4K than have them run at 60fps, and it seems they must sacrifice one or the other. Developers want their games looking "filmic" as Hargett puts it, and want more people to be able to experience their games in sharp detail and bright colors.

So get a PS4 for a hundred bucks at the pawnshop to play bloodborne

Not really interested but I thougth you could with the PSNOW or whatever is called

*citation needed

Yeah what the fuck is going on when they can't get a Ratchet game to hit 60 fps? A Crack in Time was 60 on PS3.

i see
thanks for the info

What a joke

CELL

>30fps
it's not even funny anymore

Attached: lev.png (1920x1080, 1.18M)

Complete and utter bullshit. MS is already touting 120hz games for SeX. This is embarrassing damage control.

>Most game developers would rather have their games look good in 4K than have them run at 60fps, and it seems they must sacrifice one or the other
Fuck these game developers.

>this pre alpha demo had a stutter, confirmed trash.
you sure showed them

The editor is full of shit. Most fucks have TVs so bad that HDR doesn't even matter.

To some extent, sure. Even then the SSD seems like it has the capabilities to do things PC SSDs currently can't (or don't). The good thing about console hardware pulling shit like this means that games will generally be better for PC too as the platform their develo0mental focus is on has become better.
Also trigger tension sounds fantastic if it's used well. Good rumble has already made a noticeable difference.

As a PC player looks like the new XBOX has way more power than the other consoles but does this really mean anything? I dont think so, PS5 just needs to be able to play the same games at a similar level and it wins

But I already got one.
That shit has a ton of delay, tired to play ape escape 2 just to try it out and had like 3 seconds of delay for me.
