Bugsnax are created entities that can rapidly genetically modify whomever consumes it. We see that people who eat it gain their forms, replacing parts of their body. If enough are eaten, eventually, a distinct change happens. perhaps, the moment the brain and cns are altered, the person undergoes the final metamorphoses. the snack-looking parts of their body each gain their own consiousness. their limbs and organs go from snacks, to bugsnax, as they detach and scatter.
The very end of the trailer is distressing, as it shows several different bugsnax reform back into humanoid form, hinting at a regaining of the previous consciousness. the remaining questions are: why? is the island a scientific experiment? how have the citizens been seduced into craving bugsnax? what is the endgame?
