I just announced this game I'm working on: it's roguelite King's Field/Heretic.

I posted it on /agdg/ a while back and got shat on, but the advice I got made me improve it quite a bit.

You can check it out at

I have done nothing worth showing since last time I posted.

What do you think guys. Pls no bully?

What's the best starting point for a person who wants to make a game? Please, advice

What game? Can you draw? Do you have scanner? Can you code? Can you make music?

learn to code
learn object oriented
learn SOLID principles
pick engine
enjoy

Made a Siren Head, put him in engine and will probably make a small game with him.

>Can you draw? Do you have scanner?
games generally don't use scanned drawings
you use a tablet

2D, story driven rpg, minimail gameplay for starters
>Can you draw?
No, but my close friend does
>Do you have scanner?
What kind of scanner?
>Can you code?
No
>Can you make music?
I am drummer in a band

Thanks user, taken notes

feels like the artstyle is clashing, specially between the characters and the rocks

I use scanned drawing as base for graphic. I redraw. I have tablet but everything i made with it is much worse than stuff i do with mouse. Also i don't think you need tablet for pixel art or 3D graphic.

cool sirenhead but why make another fucking horror game?

just sell the asset on the store

you should do some more practise with your tablet

Making the final boss fight, trying to make a random number decide the boss next attack

'cause i wanna switch from unity engine to unreal and want to finish something small before starting a "real" project.

this guy is gonna make it

some room for improvement like making them look a little less flat, the single rectangle shadow looks odd. but i honestly love these and cant wait to see what you do with them

currently working on a genesis port of undertale, trying to figure out how to work with the vdp sucks

based, make sure it runs at 60fps to shame gamemaker.

>rpg
>minimail gameplay for starters
RPG is one of hardest stuff you can do.

If you can't code, buy or download some free game kit and build your game on it. If you are drummer, download Fruity Loops and learn how to make music. Problem is that in indie dev you have to do it all or almoust all yourself. Counting that someone else will do work for your is best way how to never finish your project.

Thanks. Can change rocks. Will not change characters.

so I recently came across a large sum of money. how much do you think I would need to get a team together and start up a project? thinking a team of 5 to 10 for 2 or 3 years of development. I've set aside $5mil, but I have more if necessary..

hire me, I can code

>If you are drummer, download Fruity Loops and learn how to make music
Yeah, that's in the bag already, I am mixing and mastering usually.
>Counting that someone else will do work for your is best way how to never finish your project.
Noted

based

taking a small break to focus on vidya.
Got the base code all ready to go for the combat.
It's mostly going to be annoying to make a bunch of code for a bunch of scenes

just pick your favorite artists and agree on their comission prices for what you want to do

hiring people means you'll have to manage them, which is balls

Fucked around with shaders since I burnt out working on the "engine"
Still looks like something you could make in a weekend

My advice would be start drawing characters and enviroment for your game in resolution you want. Usualy it 32x32 pixels for tilesets. You will learn how to make something. Perhaps ask your friend to draw some for your. Scan it. Resize to size you would use in game and draw your characters or tilesets over it. And watch some video about pixel art. There are few rules you need to follow. Download unity or Game maker studio so you will see how it works. There is lot of free game templates you can study. Also you need lot of time. Be sure you have that time and plan your game simple as possible.

Best orcs since warcraft 2, nice job user. The demons look dope too. Is this an rts or what?

Remind me of little figurines, I like
AW clone?

Hire me plox. I can do art and code and will work for minimum wage.

Yes it is RTS. 4 races. Warcraft 2 is big inspiration ( ripoff ).

Thanks.

How do I convince my gf to work on her art so I can abuse her to make assets for my game?

I'm making animations.
They look like shit.
That is all.

I know that feel

I got one word for you, it's:
reference

I'm on the same boat, know many fujoshis that know how to draw but I don't know how to approach the subject without making myself look like a psycopath

I've use them but they don't help as much for 3D
Even if they did, running and sword swings are easy enough to find but not what I need rn

>running and sword swings are easy enough to find but not what I need rn
if it's something you can't find, take any camera and record yourself for reference. That's fairly common.
