I played this shit for fucking years.
I went to locals and won. I went to TCG Player States and got top. I went to YCS tournaments and got top. I got prizes and sold them. I owned the most expensive decks. I played everyting under the sun. And it was fucking awful.
Real life yugioh players are some of the most idiotic, low class, filthy, and disgusting fans I've ever met. I've been cheated, robbed, and outright attacked. I've had cards stolen and sold before I tracked it down, within hours. I've had players cheat right in front of me. I've had judges rule against me because of bribery.
Real life yugioh is a shitshow.
And don't even get me started on the game now, and how powercreep still continues to go unchecked. I played for 6 years and stopped just after monarchs were nerfed 4 years ago.
The game is dead to me.

I went into an LCS participating store once and it smelled like pee so I never went there again and just collected the cards for the pretty shiny pictures like a magpie, while playing the game itself digitally.

I went to several local shops for years. One didn't have air conditioning one summer, and the fucking thousand pound neckbeards there never showered anyway. That was hell.
The best local shop was at a Tradesmart, which was an offshoot of Hastings if anyone knows what that is. It's like a Barnes and Noble if all they had was pop culture toys and comics and garbage. At least that place was large, air conditioned, and had snacks and cold drinks. They'd also buy pizza for everyone once a week.
The only downside there was the judge who didn't know shit and regularly asked me or a friend about rulings.

I kind of wish I wasn't a sperg who hated the idea of those greasy bastards touching my nice clean cards, sounds like you had fun sometimes. Never actually played a game in person outside of this one guy in high school who didn't even know the rules of the game.

Masked Beast Des Gardius is my favorite card.
Relinquished is a close second. I love the weirdest monsters. I really don't care for a power crept version because then people will be like 'Oh yeah this card is good now' as if I care. The people on Youtube are pretty annoying too imo. Only guy I really like is the Old School Expert.
Same here. I tried to get back into it and realized how expensive a competitive deck could be, and that I don't want to interact with people in real life. I'm sure if you had a group of friends that played it could be cool. I just collect the nostalgia casual sets now, like Toons, and play old games like Eternal Duelist Soul.

Well, card sleeves are required for tournament play, so you can at least take solace they'll just be greasing up cheap plastic. But mostly, unless someone has to read a card which doesn't always happen, nobody really touches each other's cards.
It was enjoyable sometimes, yeah. I mostly just miss getting out and doing things with friends. They all settled down and only do shit in front of a screen these days.

Card prices in this game are always absurd. I remember when tour guide was $300 brand new, and she didn't get a reprint for several years.

If you like the old cards, the best I'd suggest is getting friends and putting together a cube draft. Those were always really fun for me, and every cube draft ended with a different deck.
