It looks good and has a few well-written moments (mostly the Joel flashbacks), but the story is such a massive, terrible kick in the dick that it deserves to be crucified for that alone.

its story really is that bad, it looks good and the gameplay (the little that there is) is decent. But it is a movie game, they depent on the story, and that story is just really really badly written.

The story is insulting to players. It tries to be adult-themed but still comes off as under developed and shallow. Like a YA novel written by an edgy amateur

The problem with TLOU2 is: they introduced political topics on the game. Characters talk about abortion, they do drugs then fuck, they praise homosexuals and Jews. This will inherently divide people. And the way they put these through the game is unavoidable.
Therefore, people who disagree with the game's opinion on those topics will obviously have a bad time playing. They'll obviously dislike the game.
While the people who agree with the game's perspective will mostly praise it, also for obvious reasons.
If you remove the political agenda, it's a great game. The gameplay is a completely enhanced experience from the first game. It's not a "Sony movie" type game that barely has gameplay. Parts from the story are really well written and explored imo - I particularly loved the plot twists that happens when you see through Abby's perspective of the scenes. It's a great, great game that was inherently damaged by their political agenda, because this will divide people's opinions.
If you're able to get through these annoying topics, you'll enjoy an extremely polished, well-made, brutal game. I fucking wonder how they managed to put so much of these delicate topics on the game. It feels really fucking out of place. Particularly, that fucking sinagogue part.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand The Last of Us 2. The narrative is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of psychological disorders, most of the plot will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Ellie's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into her characterisation - her personal philosophy draws heavily from Anne Frank literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depth of the plot
