Nothing much has changed except it's much more political, and the memes have gotten more complex (from stuff like ISHYGDDT, Doge, etc.)

I disagree. Everything has changed. Threads that stay alive are ONLY political baiting or paid marketting from big companies. Back in 2009~12 the board was filled with actual people hating on each other, playing vidya together and posting stupid shit. There's no space for stupid shit in here anymore, no place to play vidya together, no place to actually discuss games.
Now the most vidya threads we get are franchise comparisons, probably initiated by marketers.

yep, and i was on SA before that. i could go on for an hour about what's fucking changed but i'll summarize it down to 3 main bullet points here
-entire original staff has been replaced, we are full ship of theseus over here
-normalfags are everywhere, something that used to be permabanned after 1 warning post telling you to lurk, back when the staff could type anything they want for a ban reason
-the new staff prevent the userbase from self moderating and hazing unwanted people off the site (furfags, normalfags, people who aren't lolicons, etc.) with loli, gore, etc. and actually enforce the fucking rules page, which was created as a joke to make fun of normalfag forums who restrict what content people can post with heavy handed rules, the only rule that mattered was "don't post things illegal in the USA like CP" just so Zig Forums wouldn't get shut down, anything else was fair game and there was absolutely no requirement to stay on topic on any board, because as moot said multiple times, the best threads on Zig Forums are always offtopic threads far away from the boards they should be on.
Combine those three things and you get what we have today.

2012 gang reporting in. I started lurking right when the MassEffect 3 debacle happened. Back then everyone said the board was much better in 2008, but I really miss 2011 - 2014 era Zig Forums. Threads were a lot better back in the day, memes were created and died in the same thread and sure as fuck weren't ran into the god damn ground like they are now.
