The labor system that built Egyptian monuments was a form of taxation. All lower class people could be expected to contribute labor to government projects, in place of taxes, and they were paid and fed on the job enough to continue working. They worked for 3-4 month shifts alongside permanent workers. Monumental construction was very labor intensive then so this was necessary.

All the shit in Jewish texts about "slavery" is just them not wanting to fucking pay taxes. The labor was levied in place of a tax, they refused to pay taxes so they were made to work. That's literally all it is. When they left I'm sure the Pharaoh was glad the tax-dodging cultist weirdos finally left to starve in the desert - in fact I wouldn't be surprised if they were actually expelled rather than struggling to leave as it's portrayed traditionally.

if they were slaves then so was everybody. And so are you. If you evade taxes you'll be sent to prison, where you can and probably will be forced to labor. They weren't especially oppressed in any unique way, they just didn't want to pay taxes. You can argue taxes are theft and forced labor as punishment is slavery, but that just means everyone was a slave and not just the Hebrews.
