If you're talking about the PSX version, Barry dying causes the t-002 not to burst through the roof, because your actions have shown Jill doesn't trust Barry.
You need to

Did you check on Barry after the fight? Or did he perish before the Tyrant fight?

In general, RE1 has tons of alternative "routes" and endings to experience. One reason it's so fun.

Yeah, not many people realize how in depth the original game's alternate scenario system is. Like, you never see anybody talk about how Rebecca can be attacked in two different places depending on your choices from the start of the game.

Don't even bother. Story isn't worth shit except for the first 3, kinda. Start with either 4 if you want an action game, 7 if horror, 2make if a more traditional survival horror.
