Nintendo quits mobile gaming after failures

Nintendo's mobile gaming initiatives have failed to make any money and so Nintendo is realizing it's better to focus solely on console gaming rather than mobile gaming. The mobile gaming market has been proven to be too hard to penetrate as none of Nintendo's mobile games have found any major success.

if they want a profitable new market to venture into, they should go for PC

Honestly based

Good

From what I read investors weren’t happy with Nintendo’s mobile games because they’re not ripping people off enough.

>Penetrating the mobile market with more gachas that are easily forgettable

Nintendo, just stick to putting all that effort you're doing in Mario Kart Tour character and skin wise in the bloody next game console wise.

didn't they make hundreds of millions of dollars off that Fire Emblem gacha?

If the want money, they should make a Pokemon Game and fill it whit micro-transactions...
OH, WAIT.

The only thing I tried out was Miitomo and had some hilarious moments using it.

That really didn't last very long.

The PC market is dead, there’s only digital files from Steam, GOG and Epic games. I’d support PC gaming more if I could buy gams on disc and play them straight off the disc but you can’t do that anymore

Nice try, piratefag.

Nintendo told developers to not to rip off people because they fear that it might damage Nintendo's brand if they do and they wont have money to buy Nintendo's real games.

>Nintendo's mobile gaming initiatives have failed to make any money and so Nintendo is realizing it's better to focus solely on console gaming rather than mobile gaming.

Good joke, Fire Emblem Heroes and Pokémon Go made like a billion.

I miss Miitomo.

The issue isn't mobile gaming, the issue is Nintendo.

Yeah basically this
>Fearing that it would harm the brand equity of its franchises, Nintendo asked its mobile development partners not to force players to spend a lot in games, according to people at those companies, who asked not to be identified as the matter is private. A Nintendo spokesperson declined to comment.

Nintendo is not good at skinning whales good enough to make mobileshit profitable enough.

Fire Emblem heroes is dying and Pokemon Go isnt Nintendo.
Nintendo basically figured out that they need to put a lot more effort into making their mobile games do better but they're better off using the resources for video games on the switch instead.

So are you not buying this next gen of consoles that are also going to be digital only?

I wouldn’t mind a mii chat room kind of like Habbo where you can decorate your room or something with Nintendo items. I guess that’s basically animal crossing though

That's the future of console gaming as well, PS5 is using their two versions to see if they should still bother with physical. If the digital-only one does well, the other will be phased out.

POCKET CAMP ITEMS IN NEW HORIZONS WHEN?

Yeah, it doesn’t look good to me. I bought a 2DS LL recently so I started getting games on that but other than that I’ve only been buying retro games

>Nintendo's mobile gaming initiatives have failed to make any money
yeah about that

sony did it with FGO, no whales want to spend money on bing bing wahoo mexican nigger. Even SNK know how to attract whales by gender swap their popular characters

You can tell Sony just tacked on the disc drive in the first place. This is the last gen with physical media, maybe in 10 years I can play biohazard village on PC when it’s on sale for $2 or something instead of wasting money on a PS5

Off yourself Physicalfag

Only 1 billion dollars across multiple mobile games with tons of developers time and effort put into maintaining them as well after years of investment into the area.
The article pretty much states that it's too much effort into something other companies are making more money from and they're better off focusing on switch games instead.

Where's Pokemon Go? I know they didn't publish it but surely there's some income

Hearing miis speak in message threads made for a lot of funny moments with the few people that stuck around with it. I never spent a dime on it, but it's a shame it shut down so quickly.
Now it seems like Nintendo is trying to phase out Miis altogether just as they began to do fun things with them.

So the answer is cute girls and waifus
I like to own my games, I’ve got games that are almost 40 years old and I can just plug it into my Famicom and play it. No patches, no nothing just plug and play

Nintendo made very little money from Pokemon GO.

Pokemon company is it's own thing.

>The PC market is dead
you DO know that PC brings in more money than all console combined, right?
tell me you arent this ignorant

Still do us a favor and off yourself

Combine all that and it'll still be less than FGO or that other chart topper, which is probably what they hoped to achieve.

movies, music and books still have physical releases

>company closes down servers because PC brigade deems 20 year old games "problematic"
>can't play your old bought games anymore

They don't want to gte caught up in the coming backlash on lootboxes and games and phones begin used to turn kids in gambling addicts.

Nintendo is getting OUT of the mobile vice den.

hahahaha..... no

the problem is that google and the pokemon company get most if not all the revenue from GO and nintendo gets left with jackshit

The only reason they went into the mobile market in the first place was because of pressure from stockholders during the Wii U years. They're probably quietly celebrating this.

Nintendo owns about half of Pokémon and its success made their stocks skyrocket.

I don’t care how much money it generates for that obese kike Gabe, I just care about games and if I can’t physically hold a Complete game in my hand then I don’t want it.
Oh yeah that’s why they had the disc drive so I can put my book in there

They don't weigh 100+GB each and come on proprietary hardware though.

smilling Iwata.jpg

pokemon go money goes back into pokemon and google, it doesn't get spent on anything nintendo...it's very different if the game was made by nintendo themselves like a wii sports mobile game or a mario game

This is obviously not covid. Who has that much money to spend jobless for a quarter of a year?

You guys always fantasize about these scenarios and it only happened once so far in a service that people actually care about (Wiiware)

Book also have digital version now, dumbass. But peoples still prefer physical books

They stated from the start of their mobile "effort" that its point was getting more people into their franchises so they would buy the console and its games. First-party Switch games are all explosive successes with Animal Crossing in particular blowing up on an unprecedented scale. There's no need for a middleman anymore.

But gamers are mentally retarded, look how many of them are fighting over which PC game launcher is better. They’re both shit you don’t own the game just a licence to use the game

4K UHD movies is like 100+GB, user.

I still wonder why they didn't follow on microtransaction models like the ones in Pokemon Rumble and Kirby Team Clash, where after you buy a certain amount of items equivalent to the full price of a game, they give you a method to farm those items daily infinitely.

To be fair, FEH is dying after three years of success, and IS is still trying to milk whales with new gimmicks like the recently released Harmonized Heroes (Duo Heroes from different games, starting with Mia and Masked Lucina). They're still pulling a profit though. Can't say much about GO, other than Nintendo only sees a tiny fraction of that money, if I'm correct.

If you read the article, mobile games spending has been at an all-time high during quarantine. Same for console games spending anyway, the Switch benefited a ton from it.

Shit, then why did they Jew the fuck out of Mario Kart mobile?

Miitomo was more fun than it had any right to be, spent hours making pictures in that thing.

The switch is a huge success, it sold more than the PS4

I would buy a Nintendo smartphone as long as it had its own OS. That way they could have a very closed app offering and keep everything proprietary

console games are dead to, the only shit that sells on the ps4 is the yearly FIFA

I mean, when FGO is your benchmark for mobile success, every game looks like a failure. FGO alone has generated more revenue than the entire LoZ franchise.

Last ditch effort to penetrate the mobile market I suppose.

It might even be Nintendo demonstrating exactly why they don't want to go down that route, and how bad it is for both sides.
