Is there any hope the PS5 will do that?

Simple answer: No
Hardware does not simply allow that
Best they can do is emulation
No because they would lose money.
Having a console that can play everything is not as profitable as having four consoles which can only play their own games.
lol no, all those discs where already sold and sony cant profit from them anymore
You will buy [game] again for the [number] time but this time 4k 60fps!!!
you aren't entitled to BC
>then emulates it for you
but sony is no longer selling PS1/PS2/PS3 consoles, how are they making money on them still?
But I am entitled to download ISOs and play them on my hacked PS1/2/3.
>4k
>60fps
pick one
Any hope for 1080/60 at least for ps5?
No. The hardware's there but devs will overwork it as usual and shit out 1080p30* for another gen.
*with dynamic framedrops to 20fps
No because they're stupid and greedy.
They could have PS1 and 2 emulation due to their own in house emulators but would they put it in? Doubtful
Sony was never good at backcompat. Their POPS emulator for PS1 on PS2 only works on a handful of games, and the PS2 emulator for PS3s that don't have PS2 guts also sucks nads. This is them admitting it and giving up on it.
Curious user what makes doing PS4 on PS5 so much easier?
the ps4 and ps5 arent based on meme technology architecture, pretty sure its just weak PC with proprietary operating system
Let's see if there's PS4 BC first.
Because they started to back off from their promises
> It will have all PS BC
> Nvm, just PS4
> Nvm, just some of them
Next step
> Here's TLOU2Remaster and fuck off
i hope we see a PS5 that has a PS3 chip in the future, like how did the fat PS3 had back in the day
Wrong, more game equals more sales.
Whatever console you have, PC has more sales than it annually.
Microsoft have taken an easier approach and just demanded all Xbone/PC games from presumably 2020 onwards must have a SeX version. If you own the Xbone version you get the SeX version too.
Therefore the cost of "b/c" is paid for by publishers.
Don't care, I was a dumb fuck kid still when the ps3 released and I traded in all my old games and consoles for it. I honestly deserve to be kicked in the face.
wait, couldn't they just make it so, if you wanted to play an old game, the ps5 just loads the correct play station OS (or whatever it is) and then just runs the game through that OS? Wouldn't that be like, incredibly simple to do? I'm not super knowledgeable on emulation, but isn't the thing that holds back most emulators the fact that they don't actually have the source code for the play station, and have to emulate it as best as they can for it to run on other hardware? Basically, a virtual machine in a way? Again, correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't this be REALLY easy to do for sony?
I could care less about ps5 because its the same shit they always do
> overhype
a new console pretending it can do anything under the sun from walking your dog to sucking your dick. then go ad nauseam about all the potental it has.
> only to follow up with
another console generation of 50% re releases, multiplat yearly releases and next to no good first party releases which are once ever 1.5 - 2 years
Just invest in a top tier videocard and emulate.
Xbox
Half the PS4 gen was remasters.
Hell PS5 presentation had gtav. That settled it.

>if you wanted to play an old game, the ps5 just loads the correct play station OS
They can do that, or they can selectively remaster your old favorite games in HD to tempt you into giving them $60.
>Device that reads any PlayStation disc and downloads a copy of it then emulates it for you
Absolutely not no and this is a voloutnary decision because Sony would rather sell roms to you off PSN than let you attempt to use disk copies.
only by emulation
They have access to all the original hardware documentation, they could probably code emulators that are way more efficient than anything that currently exists on PC. The fact that the PSOne Classic used PCSX or something and run like ass is fucking embarrassing.
All I need is my PS2 to play all my PS1 JRPGs anyway.
This. PS2 was the last good PlayStation.
