Nupaperchildren woke up from the matrix

Let me revise that
>announced
>one day of misdirection
>forgotten
>another trailer
>Truth comes out
>forgotten again

I'm still pretty excited about it.

They made the combat system a shitty gimmick again instead of just solid jRPG mechanics

No one wants to play babby's line-em-up with motion controls only

Nintendo doesn't like RPGs.

Nintendo thinks the whole "TEE HEE IT'S PAPER GEDDIT? TAPE DISPENSER BOSS FIGHT!!!!" schtick is a lot more clever/charming than it actually is.

it's not Smash, Zelda or some coombait

Im cautiously optimistic

I still want to try it.

Are you the same faggot who makes daily "oh there are no threads about ARMS/Astral Chain? guess they flopped!"?

yes

>Paper Mario
>First two games have good story and characters and good battle mechanics
>Nintendo guts both of those things for Sticker Star onward instead of expanding on what already worked and had potential
>Fast forward to 2020
>Origami King trailers released
>Battle system looks even worse now because they added stupid rotation gimmicks to the battlefields instead of giving us the original combat system back or something comparably good
>Story and world barely look improved upon at all because it's still a parade of generic Mushroom Kingdom NPCs with costume props on, barely any "new" characters, barely any characters with effort put into their designs. The bosses also look fucking retarded save for the origami giants, but those aren't particularly good.
>People who loved the old battle system aren't happy.
>People who loved the world and story of the old games aren't happy.
>Literally nobody that gave a shit about this series is happy
>Small minority of screaming apologists and Nintendo fanatics emboldened by Twitter normies get really angry that a repeat of Color Splash backlash is happening
>Huge amount of arguing

What went wrong? Nintendo decided to make Sticker Star a trilogy instead of giving fans a return to form.
To the faggots that say "I'm looking forward to it! I'm going to buy it! Stay mad!"
You people would buy literally anything Mario related. Had they made a 1:1 sequel to TTYD, you'd buy and play that and gobble it up. You'll eat cake and you'll eat shit so long as it has Mario printed on it so shut the fuck up, your opinion is worthless.

Nintendo does not want to go back to the original two games.

They used the excuse of "we already have a RPG series".

Well now they don't. So no excuse left.

Miyamoto just needs to retire/die.
And don't tell me it's 100% Tabata's fault when Yoshi has the same obsession with arts and crafts crap.

Fake RPGs are not fun.

They didn't want to go back to the 64/Sunshine style of games either and after a parade of mediocre bullshit (Save Galaxy 1 and 2 I guess) they did with Odyssey.
Yes, user. I know. We all know. Nintendo hates going back to the kinds of games people actually like. This is an issue that goes beyond Paper Mario. Look at Zelda, look at Metroid, look at Starfox. They do this shit all the time and it was at its absolute worst pre Switch era.

I don't know if Miyamoto retiring would really fix the issue if Tanabe is still in charge of the series. Bringing the old director back or someone like him is the only way I can see the series being salvaged.

That, or, fuck Paper Mario, fuck Mario and Luigi, just make a new Mario rpg series that isn't gimmicky bullshit.

nah, that boat sank now.

i don't even care anymore. I just want the game to be somewhat entertaining.

all i want is a functional battle system that doesn't effectively punish you for fighting, and i can't even get that. this seems to be the same shit as the last two but instead of wasting one-use cards for money to buy more cards you're wasting breakable weapons for money to buy more breakable weapons
its inherently fucking pointless and i'm sick of it, i don't even care if its a proper RPG just don't have roughly 60%+ of the game be literally worthless
i just hope we get more shortstack porn of olivia so the game isn't a total waste

Cause it sank in for people that this franchise is dead and not worth caring about anymore, unironically the children that grew up with Sticker Star are now the intended audience. Just look at twitter

>REEEEEEEEEEE WHY ISNT THE COMBAT SYSTEM AN OUTDATED GENERIC TURN BASED SYSTEM

Paper Mario morons are stupid as fuck, you've had your usual Paper Mario games for years, they were just renamed Mario and Luigi

>"Nintendo decided to make sticker star a trilogy"
so, now that that trilogy is over can we go back to the old formula?

fuck no. When they fuck up 3 times in a row, they can't be trusted.

I am pretty excited for this game, but that's mostly because I have a Switch with cfw.

it looks kino as fuck

Who the fuck knows. Nintendo is both the most predictable and least predictable corporation in the market.
You can always expect them to not do what people want, but you can never anticipate if what they will do will be shit or not.

Are you by any chance 12

Wat. Colored pencils are mostly used by adults. Kids use crayons and markers

>Durability on sticker attacks
You can't make this shit up.

Yoshi totally pulls off the arts and crafts look though, and was an evolution from Kirby: Epic Yarn.

it's still gimmicky, repetitive and makes the games feel less natural

Why don't they use Yoshi characters anymore? Did Tanabe not play any Yoshi games and thought they were OCs?

>Character designs are bad

They aren't supposed to be natural, and Yoshi's games have made some absolutely beautiful creative levels with the arts and crafts theme. It's anything but repetitive.

>What went wrong?
Nintendo abanonded the direct format, their user base has grown so used to all the good shit being in directs they don't really pay attention to other YouTube uploads.

It comes out the same day as ghost of tsushima, it's going to get obliterated.

You had a Mario series with solid rpg mechanics and nobody fucking brought it, let paper Mario try other things.
