I have a question, and I don't expect anyone here to have a real answer, but it's been something I thought about every time one of these "Cancel " articles pops up.

We've clearly shifted into a culture where one day, for no real reason at all, someone you don't remember can decide to ruin your life for their own personal clout over some interaction you had years ago. And maybe some of these interactions crossed a line, most probably don't, but what's more interesting to me is the goal. Like, say you succeed in cancelling every celebrity and public figure who's ever hit on, slept with, or said something bad to another person. They're all cancelled, they're all gone. Then what? What is the overall goal?

Are you hoping that the next crop of celebrities that get raised up to fill that void...don't do the same things? Don't use their influence or fanbase or wealth or status for personal gain? Are you just going to keep cancelling and cancelling and culling people until you've bred a docile population of celebrities who just do whatever it is they're known for, and then go curl up in their grey box and don't interact with other humans when they're not working, so that they can never be accused of misconduct?
