Got my platinum for this game recently. Damn that shit is hard not only because it’s time taking but also because it’s hard, “beat the game and get Big Boss ranking”. It was the first time I actually got Big Boss in a MGS game. The platinum even makes you play the game 8 times to test your commitment. The retard above who said you get penalty for killing is beyond stupid, because to get platinum you have to murder around 1000 enemies eventually. You literally get a reward for killing.
The octocamo is probably the neatest thing I've seen in a game to this day.

And you get penalties for it by negatively affecting your stamina, dummy.
I can appreciate the marvel that it was at the time but this was the first real offender of "Movie Game" issues among a major release, and though MGS after that fixed this problem, others in industry adopted this too heavily now.
I had a mental breakdown over this game and don't consider it canon.
best gameplay in a stealth game before MGSV showed up, and even then it's still fun
if we had act 1 and 2 repeating two more times it'd be GOTYAY

I remember loving it back at release but then again I didn't completely understand English and MGS lore in general. Replayed it 2 years ago and I had a blast for the first act, 2 was good the rest though, hooly shit. Cannot be redeemed.

Hard disagree. The only cool part afterward was Shadow Moses because PS1 fan service done right, the rest is low effort. Worst part in the whole game has got to be Akiba x Meryl

Favorite game in the series, MGS1 almost takes the spot. Solid Snake is just the best character in Metal Gear.

Kojima had already fucked with us from the start by making the most sympathetic character the villain of the first two games in the series.

its worse than that, giving the soviets a live nuclear explosive and expecting nothing bad to happen is the real fuel of all mg events
