Anyone else think Doom Eternal is the greatest FPS of all time...

Anyone else think Doom Eternal is the greatest FPS of all time? I might even go as far as saying it is one of the top 20 best games of all time. So many games in this gen and last gen were just walking simulators and interactive movies, Doom Eternal is like a breath of fresh air. THe gameplay is super smooth, the UI is intuitive and fits in nicely with the gameplay, and it is insaney replayable. I played it on Hurt Me Plenty once, Ultra Violence twice, and I'm 1/3 through a Nightmare run already. I also love the story, but even if you don't you can skip most cutscenes so it doesn't really affect it if you hate the story or don't care. This game is a 10/10 for me, too bad TLOU2 will probably get GOTY.

not me

Thanks for the recommendation. I hope to get to it one day.

The gameplay gets boring after a while, the ssg/ballista combo is mandatory, the maps are just so fucking bland and boring and are just Serious Sam levels/Slaughter wads, no replay value, battle mode is boring.
Not worth the 60 bucks IMO

>and are just Serious Sam
Hey fuck you, Serious Sam is my favorite series and it's much better than nuDoom.

No, I don't agree.

It was Ight doom 2016 was better

I could see it getting stale if you play it the same "best" way every playthrough. You gotta change up your weapons and get better and different combos. I went from your combo to a ssg/plasma heat blast to ssg/plasma microwave beam to rocket launcher/heavy assault. change it up it'll make it better

>it's much better than nuDoom.
At least we can agree on that

accordingly to how fast players stopped playing it not the people who played Doom 2016, which is a far better game
top is doom 2016, 4 years after launch, bottom is doom eternal, 3 months after launch, when the entire planet is at home during a pandemic with all the time in the world to play it

Sorry, but Doom 1 is the greatest FPS of all time.
Doom 1993 was about non-linear exploration, power-ups & strafing projectiles with your sprint, and finding a way out of a complex maze like level design. It was the most open ended level design when it came out, rivaled only by the likes of build engine games with their detailed secrets and non-linear levels. Doom 1993 was classic arena combat at its purest. No attachments, no perks, no skills. The tools the player was given were so powerful that just finding an incredible item was its own reward. Whether it be Soul Spheres, Blue Armors or a Rocket Launcher. Doom Eternal is great, mind you. But hardly the best. It pretty much watered down the level design into straight linear paths & endless wave based arena fights. Exploration became finding secrets on sidepaths from the main route of the level. It also caters to the Call Of Duty Zoomer generation with their weapon attachments & RPG progression. Suit Perks & Sentinel Crystals. Since when upgrading your health and armor became more important than finding a Megasphere powerup on the map? Since Bioshock Infinite? Fallout 3?????????

Doom 2016 had Snapmap & Multiplayer Deathmatch. Doom Eternal only had a campaign and Evolve wannabe gamemode, which has proven itself not to be popular form of multiplayer.

I prefer the traversal and monster designs in 2016
Fuck the climbing in eternal, that shit doesnt belong in a doom game
Also fuck the swimming and purple sludge
Who the fuck thought they would be a good idea

>Snapmap & Multiplayer Deathmatch
no one plays this, no one ever did, even the developers said "we see the data, we see people come again and again to play the campaign and that's what they want, so we are going to focus on delivering single player expansion DLCs"

not even the best doom game

Multiplayer holds a playerbase & Snapmap has evolved from corridors into its own worlds. Someone made cultist base in Snapmap. If Doom 2016 was so much better, then why is Doom Eternal such a let down if it's what people want? The skill ceiling was too much for casuals? Because that's what I'm seeing. Enormous amounts of butthurt over the new, harder mechanics and the Marauder.

I still prefer DOOM II over the original but level design was so much better in 93. Based post.

It's basically just a tech demo for the id Tech engine. The gameplay was quickly dated by literally everything that came after it.

Super shotgun really made blasting pinkies so much more fun. The expanded enemy roster breathed life into it and the 32 level roster has tons of awesome levels in their own right.

I think both nuDOOM games are pretty dull personally.
I don't find locking me in boring minimally differentiated arena fights makes for a compelling game.
I was honestly perplexed by how highly rated it was because I found it so tedious by the end and painkiller did this better a long time ago.

I couldn't even finish DOOM 2016 it was so boring. Doom 3 was the last great Doom from actual id before they all left.

Agree 100%. It's just that DOOM 1 felt more consistent with its level quality

Nah not even close of for all time but maybe for this generation, the only real competition is Titanfall 2
I did beat it on Nightmare though which was good fun, in the sense that damage values were reasonable it was just a mad management rush that the difficulty came from. Probably my second favorite game of the year behind Ori

You could pretty much say the same of modern Dooms. Yet everything that came after worked on the shadow of Doom 1993 didn't have as memorable monsters.

Unironically this. As much shit as Doom 3 gets from its linear and narrow level design, its weapons felt much better to use, they had weight. The chainsaw is pretty much homage to the classic chainsaw. No glory kills. Just blasting demons.

imagine thinking that changes in later instalments overrule what came before. It's because of faggots like you devs keep ignoring what made great games great.

100% BASED POST

>is Doom Eternal such a let down if it's what people want?
he meant people wanted more of doom 2016 single player campaign, not the changes they made between the games
dash made imps become useless, in 2016 they were a threat until the end of the game, now there are shitloads of them from the beginning and they and gargoyles represent the same threat level as zombies, in the first slayer gate we kill probably 40-50 of those 2 and they are not even the threat there but on 2016 just a few on that arena on the second level ended countless ultra-nightmare runs even for speedrunners
people were too stupid to figure it out how to use the stun bomb from the plasma gun to deal with pinkies so they changed it to freeze bomb to cater to the stupid but they added blood punch, a kill pinkie feature for lazy faggots
the crucible is also nothing more then a "delete hard enemy" feature, you never need to fight super heavy demons and you don't even need to use it on the cyberdemon since that piece of shit can't land a single shot at you
cacodemons were nerfed and die to a single shotgun shot and since pain elemental lost souls are all bugged they're just a cacodemon
the only demons you really fight are heavys, the bosses are even shitier
the marauder is cool, he was the best addition imo
I was hyped as fuck for this game since I loved 2016 but I just never felt that strong hearth rate increase this time, not a single time, the music is not even near the level of the last game, I was disappointed and seems like most people were since the player base melted from 84k players to 1k players within 3 months

Eternal fucked with everything that made 2016 great all because the SSG and a couple runes, which you may or may not have known about or used in the first place, were overpowered. How about you just make some balance tweaks? Is that so hard? I don't want to be running out of ammo and glory killing every 5 seconds. The platforming is stupid, the swimming is stupid, the floating guns like they're ripped straight from a Serious Sam game is stupid.
