Never played a harvest moon game, but I have played stardew and animal crossing, how similar is it? I would guess stardew is pretty close due to the whole running a farm thing.

stardew is basically a clone of harvest moon. I don't mean that in a negative way, but if you liked stardew there's no reason you wouldn't like harvest moon, just ignore any game titled harvest moon that was released from 2014. from then on it's been story of seasons

As much as I like Ann's old design the one upside is maybe this time I will finally go with a different girl. In all these years anytime she's been an option I haven't been able to resist her, but now maybe it will finally happen. Doubtful that it will even still, she's still too perfect.

There's not really crafting, definitely not what Stardew has, and combat is only in Rune Factory entries. Everything else will be what you're used to.
Most people think HM has stronger villager interactions and that was certainly true of release SDV, but it's not exactly a fair comparison anymore between concernedape never dropping the project with updates all these years and mods to cover the rest.

Are there any Harvest Moon games besides the original where time stops late at night? I liked the balance of having to get village stuff done during the day but then having unlimited time at night to water, chop wood, etc. I remember enjoying some of the later games but the constantly running clock combined with my autism made me treat them more as time-optimization problems rather than just enjoying relaxing farm life
