I don't know, Cortex was very miserable in CB3 with Uka Uka, so I don't see him trying to earn his trust when he can kill Crash alone (Since know he had decades of prep time).

I guess in canon it stands for nerd but I always thought it stood for Neo as in Neo Cortex because that's his fucking name.
