IGN reviewers apparently don't even get paid Money to pretend a game is good. They actually whore themselves to companies and shill out uncritical "reviews" for FREE
IGN reviewers apparently don't even get paid Money to pretend a game is good...
K
they get paid indirectly through things like ad campaigns and early preview copies.
Last of Us 2 got good critic reviews cuz it has accessibility modes for which makes the game a walk that even a money can beat it. No matter the difficulty and that's not a exaggeration. The accessibility options are absurd, there is even a blind person mode.
It's still access journalism and I don't think Sony would invite you to preview events and whatever if you shit on their products.
>website runs on ads conveniently paid for by video game publishing companies
Wow it's almost like underhanded moneyhatting is done underneath the table a few degrees removed specifically to prevent accusations of blatant corruption.
>They're not paying me. They're paying my bosses and my bosses pay me. Because money changed different hands that means it's clean.
don't they still get advance copies for free
seems like a big enough incentive to not give out shit reviews so people keep giving you free shit, and thats just games- if i were one of the assfucker reviewers getting invited to the special events or getting shipped the wacky merch packages with tons of free shit you bet your pasty ass i'm giving out 10/10's all day
Considering the amount of IGN staff that slowly transitioned into jobs at sony maybe they get paid in another way.
>call a game not fun
>act like a jump button is innovative
>the game is a masterpiece guys 10/10 not paid for
They will tell you that the ads on the website are not handled by any part of the editorial staff and none of the writers/reviewers/etc.. have any idea about what ads are going to be on the site before they go up.
>a dev never payed me for a review
>but check out this photos me and my team took at this games event we got invited to and we also got early review deluxe editions and a swag bag full of official merch for free
>this game was a 10/10 btw the way you should all buy it
>I-I'm not getting paid for the review!
yeah, such thing as getting paid in favors doesn't exist and you would totally be ok with risking your company's connection with the other company by giving it a bad score right?
>ign reviewers are Zig Forums Jannies
Hmm. Journalists get money from ad revenue and such, right? But how do they attract people to their websites to see those ads? With early looks at games nobody else has yet? What would happen if they had an early look and went "whoa, this is hot dogshit, I've gotta tell everyone to avoid this trash."
Would the publisher like that? I'm sure they would love and respect such honest journalism. And they certainly wouldn't hesitate the next time they're looking for someone to show off a game to pick them again. They give those copies out to them because they're friends, not business partners, right? And I'm sure other publishers hear about those articles and think "god damn those are some good journalists, I want them to talk about my game before anyone else can see it as well!"
>Reviewing games
>Job
Imagine actually being proud of that LMAO
What I find funny is that ign fag says "his opinions are his own", but then their 10/10 reviews sound exactly like a script of a sony advertisement. I guess even bootlicking ad whores can have "opinions" too, lol
They do it for you.
They can say whatever they want or strawman whatever single accusation but everyone knows external factors influenced their reviews. No impartial player saw that crippled disaster of a story and had the audacity to say 10/10 except unanimously these early copy reviewers. Odd how that works!
>they do it for free
They should have become forum moderators instead.
it's too bad there wasn't some kind of big event 6 years ago attempting to point out issues like this until it got lost in worrying about a bunch of stupid whores who played them like fiddles to get massive media attention they would have otherwise never gotten
It's basically a fucking fact that you don't get review copies if you give negative reviews, what a twat
no review copies. no access at E3 and other conventions. no pre-release interviews. no promotional material which other outlets that play ball get. none of the cool swag the other guys that are in on it get.
>Dev or Publisher don't pay me!
>But I will get my ass fired if I don't play ball and give out those 10/10 scores
This made me so sad for some reason
nobody said they get paid with money
what a faggot
>my job pays me
and who pays them?
jannies don't get invited to PocketCon, get sent boxes of new flavors before they hit the market, or get free swag bags of Hot Pocket merch though
It shouldn't, there's no excuse for the sad state of the site today
Users are half the issue but garbage, sometimes malicious, moderation is also at fault
Shitposters can only thrive under mod inaction and apathy, and oh boy have they thrived
That tweet just says his job pays him to give good reviews to games that his job has financial backing from.
Of course the game companies don't pay each reviewer individually. They pay a lump sum to the review company who then distributes the money across its reviewers.
>"....the Last of Us 2 gameplay doesn't evolve much from its 7 year old predecessor, the pacing is off putting and the story choices don't pay out"
>"10/10"
>please ignore the advertisement money.
Of course they don't. The parent company gets paid to ensure good reviews are given, not the induviduals who can honestly claim they are not paid to do so by devs and publishers. Their job in house, however, is to give favourable reviews to big name games. Lying is their job to begin with and they do it proper.
>What is a company line.
