It was fun for the first 15 hours, then I realized how shallow it is. Open world games are a shit genre

I wanted something to satisfy the fantasy game itch I had so I bought a used Wii U copy for $30
unfortunately it didn't fill the void so I ended up playing King's Field 4 instead

Same here although it took 35 hours

I hoped Zelda would be the one to get me to like open worlds. Ironically, I was far fonder of Gravity Rush 2 and Nier Automata.

About 15 hours for me, made it to 30, dropped the game for about 6 months then managed to dredge out another 30 over the course of another 6 months before listlessly limping to the finish. I'm pretty sure I only did it out of some misguided obligation to beat it because it's a 3D Zelda, I've even beaten SS twice but goddamn BotW was a chore.

Because it was a launch title for the first console I ever got at launch.
Sure as shit not buying botw 2, I should have gotten snake pass instead. But at least since I got my switch so early I discovered SNK games since those were some of the first on the eshop.

There is absolutely nothing "shallow" about BotW.

I did not even go to Kakariko Village before I'd played the game for a good 30+ hours! I tried to beat Ganon for the first time at 80h mark, long before I'd visited any of the races' towns.

I loved exploring this barren land very much. It was pretty much the adventure game I was always craving for.

Realistically, will BotW ever be topped in our lifetimes?

It is pretty mediocre. The only fun parts are the giant animal robot dungeons. Other than that its mostly walking. Its "open world" so it doesn't lead you in any direction so I usually just walk in one direction until i either find a shrine or get murdered by those half-horse, half-rapist things or laser robots. Also ive gone through more horses than a glue factory because i constantly abandon them to climb walls and shit. They basically can't go anywhere important. All in all this game is pretty lame.
