gen4 is objectively the comfiest gen, it was made at the time as the ultimate pokémon game (source: masuda) gen3 felt like a downgrade in many aspects compared to gen2 while gen4 took everything from previous gens while adding some new things. Gen 4 was thought to be mase as the comfiest game while Gen3 was more like a reboot of the series

2 was a half assed version of what they wanted to do limited by the system. Sinnoh and the remakes was much closer to parts of the beta combined.

Gen IV was definitely where pokemon peaked. Gen V was when they started developing the game around online multiplayer (of course gen iv had online multiplayer too but it was more experimental and more of a fun side thing. Remember shit like collecting foreign pokemon?) and everything else suffered.

I hate that I can't indiscriminately talk shit about gen 4 because HGSS exist. They are the best games in the entire Pokemon series and I wish there were better romhacks for them.
Diamond and Pearl were ugly, slow, boring, soulless abominations. Unfortunately I never got to experience Platinum or I could be a contrarian and talk shit about that, too.

Platinum is definitely up there on the tier list too. its diamond/pearl done right and better, alter-dimensiopuzzle was cool, plus peak comfy winter atmosphere
gen 4 as a whole only suffer from the horribly slow combat hud, nothing that a small patch cant fix

just play those 100% completion hacks like sacred gold/storm silver. it makes the game slightly harder, plus the evolutions/legendary got their own nifty change to obtain all

I haven't played D/P, but Platinum seems to suffer from the same issues as D/P. It's main selling point imo is the post game battle zone, which is one of, if not THE best post game areas in any Pokemon game.

yes. I liked the cozy feelings of nighttime in gen 2, but there was something I always loved about the summery feels of 3 that made it the most nostalgic for me.
