What are your thoughts on backwards compatibility? Is it a must-have feature, or is it an increasingly impractical feature that jacks up hardware costs? I feel like having it in is definitely preferable to devs spending all their time remastering shit for the new console...or if you're gonna get rid of it, grow a spine and tell people to keep their old consoles if the wanna play that shit.

What do they mean when they say it'll support the "overwhelming majority" of bloodborne?
I want to play NCAA Football 14 on the PS5 :)
Back in PS2 days it was a must have for me.
These days, with emulation being a thing, I dont give a shit. I keep my PS4 until either all games are playable on PS5 or I just keep it forever. Dont care
like PSnow, it won't have the DLC
do regular folk really just toss their old console once a new model comes out?
I can't think of any PS4 game I'd want to go back to besides Bloodborne, and I'd just rather a port of that didn't run at 20fps.
if you don't have backwards compatibility in current year then you can fuck right off
I can’t wait to play blood borne or gta5 all over again on a system I can’t even afford
>impractical feature that jacks up hardware costs
They could do that shit in software easily.
Oh boy, a console with only a handful of games updated from PS4 will be able to play some of those same games from PS4. What do you have to lose, apart from several hundred dollars?
No BC was understandable with PS2 and PS3, they were weird systems and they were hard to emulate. People were shocked when MS managed to get BC working on the X-one with the 360.
There is ZERO excuse for the PS5 to be unable to play PS4 games.
Sony really can't because they're dumb as fuck. Only MS has the software knowledge to pull it off it seems.
New games
>$70
>won’t come out as frequently
>will be shit
No BC, no buy. And I mean full PS1-4 back compat with upscaling
Don't get the point, games will be exclusively remakes by next gen anway.
Have we actually seen any games that really seem like they really NEED to be on the next Sony / Microsoft / Nintendo console? Back when we jumped from N64 to gamecube or from PS2 to PS3 I could definitely see a reason (at least hypothetically) for the newer console to exist. All the games I've seen so far appear to me as if they could have existed on PS4 Pro already.
I'm noticing the most exciting thing about this console is that it can possibly play another console's games """maybe"""
Only Americans toss their old consoles. They’re the ultimate consoomers
I really really wanted more BC fro playstation
I get maybe asking for ps3 emulation could be too challenging, but there's no excuse to not adding one ps1 or ps2 emulator on it, how hard could it be? I have many ps2 games just rotting away.
Only popular titles. And those remakes/remasters are often worse.
ps4 actually had no games, while the ps3 did have games
A lot of people sell them, places like Gamestop usually offer deals where you'll get more for the old console if you trade it for direct credit towards the new one.
It should be a standard feature, but to include backwards compatibility means that they can't sell remakes of five year old games
>PS3 emulation could be too challenging
PCs far weaker than the PS5 are able to run Demon’s Souls at 60fps. Sony has no excuse. And they can get away with that because normies and Snoydrones will buy anything no questions asked
What ive always disliked is the PS2/3/4 has always been BC to PS1 and i'm sure this one will be BC to PS4/1 but the big winner was the original PS3 right? It was BC to PS1/2. i would love to live in the a time that the PS5 would be BC to all generations but i dont understand why its not possible either.
>le PS4 only has Bloodborne xd meme
at least get new material for your shitposts faggot
Demon's souls is just one game. A lot of PS3 games require difficult work arounds and complex hacky shit to work.
People need to see what this gen is: the 'rebuy all your shit' gen. They want to normalise consoles without physical media and backwards compatibility per the behest of publishers. It's very anti-consumer. Why would they buy GTA 5 on PS5 if they can just play their PS4 copy on PS5 for free? This is what this shit is about. There's no logical reason, no hardware limitation, and nothing about this that benefits the consumer. I say consumer, because it does benefit a customer - the publisher, who buys licenses to develop for the system.
there are people who don't hoard things
i know, if fucking alien to me as well.
I agree that the ultimate motive is to milk consumers dry. But emulation is really not as hard as everyone makes out to be.
Sony is a billion dollar corporation, it’d be trivial them.
Post one other ps4 game.
Jackie Chan
>it’d be trivial them.
There's also the problem that Sony's tech team honestly suck. They have good hardware on the whole, but their software team really aren't very good. They've always had security problems, and the PS4 struggles with rendering alpha effects (it still renders them when they're 0% opacity for some reason, whereas DX culls it). Their in-house engine (Pyre? Phyre?) was also pretty janky.
I feel like requiring the hardware to be able to run older discs is unnecessary but there's obviously a market for older games, so every console should have their own kind of Virtual Console. I don't throw away my old consoles so it's not really a problem for me, and I also don't replay games that often anyway.
I only have a regular PS4 so if I decide to get a PS5 it would be nice if I could go back and play some games in 4K Turbo HDR Nano SSD Load Times or whatever they were saying. Not sure what those games would be, but still.
>And they can get away with that because normies and Snoydrones will buy anything no questions asked
you can say that of nintendo too, funnily enough, the one with the leastreason to play older generation games (xbox) has it better than us.
