He's a side character (not even the most important side character) from a spin off game from 30 fucking years ago with no story sequels.
In addition the game is partly owned by Square which even Sakurai has admitted is a goddamn nightmare to work with. Heck the game isn't even available on the switch right now. We only got Cloud (with extremely limited content) and Dragon Quest because they are LITERALLY some of the biggest characters in gaming. Geno is none of that.
If Nintendo really wanted to rep the Mario RPG series they'd just choose Paper Mario or another PM rep. Or they could just pick from one of the many other RPG series that are either more popular or easier to add which is basically everything.
Waluigi and Ashley are 10x more likely than Geno will ever be.

I love Geno, and I think his chances are great. He ranked two on sourcegaming's recent megapoll and has remained a fan favorite for decades. His mii costume still hasn't returned, and several leaks point in his direction, including especially cacomallow.

That said, we gotta grapple with the fact that Sora and 2B are both very viable inclusions from SE that could push sales of new ports while Geno has very few money-makers he could be packaged with.

Decent chances. His popularity as a request for Smash is known, spirits are on the table (as they always have been), and we haven't seen his costume yet. If he isn't next, he is either the last character, or geyting an enhanced costume for gunner with some music.
