what's the appeal of this game?
What's the appeal of this game?
it';s fun
beautiful virtual nature
real time strategy with a variety of ways to complete objectives
Cute and fun and also morbid
It's fun.
It has a solid aesthetic, unique for even Nintendo.
I'm partial to the semi-realistic miniatures aesthetic.
It almost has enough AI-elements to give you the same pleasure you would get from a sim game. (If only there was some kind of pikmin-farm sidegame)
It's fun and the music is nice.
The environment really sells it for me
Use the natives to genocide local species and raise them to become the dominant species and apex predators
Also theres this ship of yours you gotta fix but thats not as important
Casual and novel exploration-based RTT game with a masterful art style.
it's fun
Slavery and sacrifice
I remember liking it so much because while it has a cartoon, kid-friendly facade, the game is very unforgiving and its themes are really grim.
The game felt like it had stakes, and when a bunch of your pikmin would die you knew it was your fault.
RTS with atypical mechanics.

the sequel, anyways
>the pikmin 2 box art using clay models
pure fucking aesthetics. Nothing will ever top that boxart for me
Haha cute
Haha space man
Haha Vietnam wall
I combines a beautiful aesthetic with a lonely and somber experience and a cutesy yet at times chilling world.
I remember playing this game when I was younger and being entranced by it. The little sound of dying pikmin was so haunting, and the cruel realities of having to murder things to survive and produce more of your little workers held the same cold beauty as watching ants dismantle the corpse of a caterpiller.
It's also fucking fun.
It's a decent console take on RTS.
This.
Absolutely 10/10 atmosphere, everything from the monster designs to the sound to the music and the landscapes is top tier.
The gameplay is unique though somewhat frustrating at times, I definitely don't like the way water works, makes blue Pikmin way too preferable to have and makes red Pikmin almost useless a lot of the time. I think Pikmin 2 ironed out the balance of the different species much better.
It's gives you the experience you were when you were a kid, playing in the woods, imagining little creatures and animals messing around in the underbrush, or amidst random trash
Pikmin has more soul than any other Nintendo franchise
Not to mention it's more atmospheric than most Nintendo games
And to parrot others: It's fun
What everybody else said but also Olimar is one of Nintendo’s best protagonists and is a really good character you can relate to.
Red pikmin are better for combat than any other in pikmin 1. I think its something like yellow and blue both do 10 damage per tick, but reds do 15 damage per tick.
damn he got it
Experiencing Miyamoto's magnum opus.
They still come off as underwhelming considering both yellow and blue are often necessary for traversal. red are fire immune but fire is a very rare hazard. I think I'd prefer having them around if water maybe slowed down non-blue Pikmin to a crawl instead of outright killing them.
that extra Red damage can make all the difference sometimes. A horde of reds as opposed to blue/yellow can sometimes kill an enemy before they have the chance to finish an attack, saving you pikmin lives and time
There's a serene and almost pastoral atmosphere, but also a time limit until Olimar runs out of oxygen. The world is built so everything feels natural, even the bosses. Olimar notes are charming and interesting and they make you want to go through the game to see the next one. Also, the first time you play it's a fairly difficult game to get the gist fast enough to have the good ending, so a second playthrough feels just as good as the first since you'll know how to play and what to do and there is also the good ending for you to see. Also the music is great and really adds to the atmosphere.
Weird, the major portion of my army is formed by the red ones because they are stronger and the more you have the more difference it makes during fights, I only have a handful of yellow to grab rocks and reach the hard to reach places and 20 or so blue ones for the water sections.
Speedrunnung
Pikmin 2 sucks and ruins what makes Pikmin 1 amazing by focusing on the caves and shit. It's still a good game and piklopedia was great.
