i dont know what to say to you, user. this place truly has gone to complete shit, Zig Forums used to be a fun place where you would ACTUALLY enjoy the memes and irony, unironically. it was filled with funny posts, obvious bait, and you could really sense the culture. now, newfags and phone posters and normies infiltrated this place, and couldnt detect the sarcasm and irony everyone was meming about, example being "soul", and attracted actual bitter assholes with superiority complexes because they are inferior in everyway in real life, and can only feel better about themselves by saying that "i has better fps fuck you console nigger hahahahaha". some oldfags are here, are stuck in a time loop of teenage nostalgia back in early 2000's and will never get out of that time loop, and instead of moving on and playing new vidya or accepting that they have outgrown vidya, they just stay here just being.. sad. Research psychology. I did a PhD because I got a scholarship which paid for the whole thing (including living costs) and I enjoy it a lot. I did a masters too, which was also paid for.
When it comes to heavy STEM subjects like yours, you are correct that you get huge diminishing returns once you go above masters level. You really would only need a PhD for academic jobs, and it is only worth going into those if you love academia, because it will result in a serious pay cut compared to private sector work. A PhD would make you preferable to hire over a person with only a masters, but it takes 3 years to get one, so when you factor that in it's probably not worth it. I'd go for the masters if I were you and stop there.

You know, I was actually gonna disagree, but then I thought about it for a minute.
