I'm curious to know the background of whoever wrote the later Fire Emblem games after Fates and why they correctly predicted the waifu, drama soap opera writing would work so well for their audience. if she had managed to goad Rhea into revealing her dragon form and killing Byleth prior to most of the flame emperor shit I think there's a good chance they'd have been convinced to side with her. If not Dimitri (it is the HOLY kingdom after all) she definitely could have convinced Claude to work with her.
Claude outright considers having Rhea assassinated in deer and after being spared in CF orders his men to follow Edelgard. Unfortunately he's criminally underdeveloped even in his own route, to the point they even re-use cutscenes from the church including Edelgard's execution otherwise he'd probably be able to spare her like she can him.
The abyss DLC is kind of weird because if all three house leaders were together for such a protracted period of time and in the presence of forbidden church knowledge you'd think they would have gotten to talking to one another yet things play out exactly the same which is dumb

It's not just Koei, although I'm sure they helped immensily in making Three Houses having such a charming cast, as it's their writers that probably wrote most support dialogues and such.
The director from Three Houses is a completly different person. He directed Echoes and Three Houses, both games that, even if they may have shortcomings in gameplay, have suberp presentation, even with a few graphical flaws.
