RPGs don't need any romance.
RPGs don't need any romance
this is correct
furthermore, all rpg romance is extremally cringe and absolutely unbearable
yes, vtm:b included
this.
Of course they don't. It's never not cringe. Unless you're explicitly making some crazy romance story, it should be left out completely.
vtm:b had romance?
how can i roleplay properly if i dont get the option to fuck someone?
Name one RPG with an actual romance and not just a system of relationship points you increase over the course of the game by selecting the right dialogue, ending in a "let's fuck" conversation
Won't play the game then
All RPGs should have an asexual path.
>yes, vtm:b included
wrong, because it's treated as a degenerate sex act and doesnt pretend to be "romance"
No story needs romance except a story about romance. Romance is gay and execs only add it to stories so that a WOMAN who watches the film with you doesn't fall asleep. She still will though because that's just how dumb women are
Yes.
Also every romance in RPGs should only be written by drunk christ avellone.
Planescape Torment
I think mask of the betrayer did it as well as it can be done, in every playthrough you do, the akachi and the founder history gives a different note to the male kc and safiya's relationship, and as for the female kc, the gann romance wasn't unbearable either
Man I don't remember any of the romance options from MotB but I fucking loved the story. Fuck
Hi chris
They don't need it, but RPG romance is pretty fun. Much better than irl romance.
You mean jrpgs.
>I think mask of the betrayer did it as well as it can be done
By making Safiya and Gann a literal waifu/husbando?
>>Chris
Mask of the Betrayer was written in it's entirety by George Ziets. He had basically unlimited creative freedom and was allowed to do whatever he wanted, with Wizards only stepping in when it came to tearing down the Wall of the Faithless
Avellone had no hand in Mask of the Betrayer
How is safiya a waifu, she's basically a shard of a woman who tortured you and cursed you just so she could save her own bf, can't really know for sure if hers or your feelings stem from your respective conditions or not
gann is no husbando material either, he's a giant slut with mommy issues who creeps on farmer's daughters in their sleep, he goes through his own arc about matters of love in the end, but only if you help him out the right way with his mother, and as I said, it's not like it's particularly good, it's just not unbearable
It's done as well as it can be done for shitty romance options in rpgs
Can't really think of anything better
she's a pretty woman who's actually helpful towards the player and not a gigantic bitch so that automatically makes her a pandering waifu fantasy
>she's basically a shard of a woman who tortured you and cursed you just so she could save her own bf
How the fuck does that means anything when YOU are Akachi and her only characterization outside of being sent (by herself) to serve you as a maid is getting headaches from time to time? You can't be serious, Safiya is frankly embarassing as a character and one of the worst examples of cliched and cheesy star crossed lovers in videogames.
>gann is no husbando material either
Gann's entire "character" can be summed up to
>Making quips about everyone for no reason other than "oh god I suffered so much so I'm gonna be an insufferable cunt about it"
>Play the poor momma's boy act because he's a tortured soul
>Sucking your dick/pussy because you're totally his soulmate
They're pathetic characters who don't even exist outside of being specifically designed to be your partners, though you can say this for pretty much all the MoTB outside of One of Many and Kaelyn, who are barely even characters in the first place.
I disagree, to me an RPG must have 3 things for perfect immersion:
>good progression, it's important to feel that your character is growing
>player property, this includes housing, loot and trophies
>close relationships, some that culminate with a romance
You have a total lack of understanding of the characters, and your arrogance interprets that as there being nothing there.
The KC is not akachi, the spirit eater is, the curse is, the curse SHE basically threw on the KC by putting him in the ruins
Akachi and the Founder were star crossed lovers, not the KC that was cursed by a woman who wanted to break the curse of her lover by using the KC and one shard of that woman
Of course safiya is not a fleshed out character, she's literally A PART of a soul, one part, it's meant to be that way, if you go for the romance you're just falling in love with an idealized version of the woman, a shard that was meant to encompass all the good that was in the founder, she's not a real woman, and the fact that she falls in love with the KC is probably just the residual love of the founder for akachi, just like the KC might be drawn to her just because of the Spirit eater curse
But you're not akachi, and she's not an actual fleshed out person, whatever romance there is there is probably fake as shit, that's why I find it an interesting spin on a romance in a video-game
And again, about Gann I didn't even touch his character besides saying I don't see how he's husbando material and saying the romance overall is not unbearable but it's not good either, so not sure what you're trying to argue there cause I agree
Yeah, it'll get modded in anyway.
True
I always rejected her due to being ugly.
Yes they do. One of the most fun things to do in RPGs is friendzone everyone.
Sorry, I'm not one of those idiots who see things that aren't there, MoTB is atrocious especially on the characterization, let alone all the massive plot holes and several layers of poorly written nonsense.
>The KC is not akachi
The KC IS Akachi no matter how you spin it, you not only gain what little remains of his memories and inherit his curse, but you also mirror the original crusade and end up accomplishing what Akachi wanted in the first place, even if you want to consider the possible endings you are, for all intents and purposes Akachi 2.0.
>Akachi and the Founder were star crossed lovers
And so are you and Safiya, it's literally the same exact story spinned once again, trying to play semantics with nonsense such as Safiya supposedly not being an actual person because "she's just a fraction of the Founder" despite that meaning nothing when it comes to the actual writing and how the character behaves, is just a really bad attempt at dismissing a lot of problems of the shitty writing in MoTB.
Worse yet, if we are to accept that Safiya isn't even an actual person by playing along the bullshit lore, that makes her EVEN MORE of a literal waifu, because by definition there can be no romance with something that is barely even a person in the lore and is created to serve you, the player, AND the KC and somehow have her fall in love with you.
Wow, you managed to misunderstand every single plot point.
TRUUUU
YOU are not akachi jesus christ. Your protagonist is the same character you played through NWN1 as, the Spirit Eater curse was placed on you by the Founder. You're not his reincarnation or nerevarine or anything of the sort
