Was it just me or were Abby sections the only good parts of the game? It seems like Ellie’s section was flatly designed.

It's almost like this was a good game and everyone is just parroting all the YouTubers desperate to hate on a triple A game because it's the popular thing to do, and while not a flawless masterpiece The Last of Us 2 is geniunly a very well made game that tells a story with higher production values and better performances than nearly every other video game ever made.

I mean I enjoyed the game and it’s story but couldn’t help but feel like Ellie’s parts were purposely made less fun.

They were. I remember getting to the part with Bbby and rolling my eyes thinking I would have to replay the same 3 days I just did as Ellie but was pleasantly surprised. It helps that Abby's moveset is similar to Joel's and her companions are more varied

Relationships don't need a reason to end, they just can because one feels marginally bored for a second. If you want an actual reason you can just look at Dina and Jessie, who's suppose to mirror Abby and Owen, their relationship was on autopilot.

No, Abby's sections were terrible. Not only were her and her comrades not fleshed out for us to care about them, the overall plot was aggravating. Perhaps a third of her chapters were dedicated to securing medical supplies for a woman who dies maybe an hour later. What a joke. Then we have to consider that Abby rather viciously tortures and slaughters a character that fans of the first game were really attached to.

The best end for Abby's sections was if Tommy landed one right between her tranny eyes with his rifle.

I don't think they give a reason but I think it's because she's so fixated on revenge that it drives a wedge between them. This is evident during the aquarium flashback.

Too bad Lev is not actually a character, he really could be something interesting

They just stripped Ellie of all her personality and made her just the insufferable hipster #7495959 that you see in YA literature all the time
If you're not into that, you really lose all interest in all characters of her cycle

Did they ever explain what the prison camp thing was or what they did to Abby and Lev?

Much of Ellie's personality was dependent upon her interactions with Joel. I found out pretty quickly that once you take him out of the equation, Ellie is nothing special.

Her experiences up until the end of the first game were probably more hellish than her experiences after settling in Jackson so this argument doesn't hold water.

Druckmann said TLOU is Joel and Ellie's story, so I don't think we are getting a third game with Abby and Lev as protagonists. That said, I don't discard them making a return as co-protagonists alongside Ellie, this time with gameplay between them intercut instead of half the game with Ellie, half the game with Abby.

No it's not. It's incredibly forced and badly written. It's meant to parallel Joel/Ellie in order to make Abby sympathetic but all of their "bonding" happens in the span of like a day. Abby has known this asshole character for a day and she's suddenly supposed to take a bullet for him despite the fact that she doesn't have any reason to give a shit about him. You're family now I'm gonna kill my comrades for you. LESS THAN A FUCKING DAY. It's just so forced.

Abby and Lev don't have a tenth the charisma of Joel/Ellie. Naughty Dog should just wash their hands and launch a time travel DLC where the sequel never fucking happened.

At the end of the game? None that is close with (Jackson settlers don't really count as "friends" IMO). But I can imagine Dina forgiving her if she sees Ellie has truly moved on.

She has absolutely no fucking reason to give a shit about her, it happens because the plot demands it.

The only reason Abby goes to rescue Yara and Lev is a spooky nightmare she had. Her whole sequence is so fucking contrived. Her and Lev are just a pale, pale shadow of the duo of Kratos/Atreus and Joel/Ellie.

It’s made clear from day one that she regretted being so brutal and is trying to prove her humanity to herself and everyone involved especially Owen. Dialogue from others and herself confirm this. Just because you don’t like the reason doesn’t mean it’s not a reason.

They can't even think of good scenarios for them to "bond" anyway. One feels like an RPG side quest, and the other one where Lev escapes and goes to Seraphite Island to murder his mother and sister was the most forced bullshit I've ever sat trough. This should not happen in a "cinematic" "story-driven" game.

She likely has brain damage now given THIS happened and no treatment happened while strung up on the pole.

Not fucking good enough. She has been a murderer and has tortured people for 4 years and has probably murdered children. Now she's suddenly a good selfless person...because of what? Where did we fucking see the development of what, she's a good person overnight ? Completely unearned and poorly written

Dreams are just our subconscious talking to us. Abby goes to rescue Yara and Lev because she realizes she still hasn't gotten over her father's death, even after killing Joel, and she needs to make amends somehow.

I never argued the quality of it just the fact she did have a reason which the other user stated she didn’t have.

So the moral of the story is that taking brutal revenge pushes you to be a better person.
