Is it okay to get in with the remake and wait for Soulstorm which is a reimagining of the second game? Tried playing the games on PC via GOG and it is a pain in the ass to get running.
Want to get into Oddworld

The original games aged very well. There's very little reason to not play them first.
I didn't know the originals were on GoG as well.
Anyway, you might want to emulate Oddysee. That game is kind of a pain in the ass.
I don't know about the remake, apart from bigger fans hating on it because "no soul" and shit. Sorry.
oddworld doesn't make sense to me
>establishes abe's race as being frail and weak in this world full of danger
>controls are fucking weird, so I went into it assuming that all you could do is sneak around and intelligently utilize traps to get past dangerous enemies
>GET STUCK, feel like there's nothing I can do
>take a quick peek at gameplay on youtube to see what I'm doing wrong
>ABE HAS PSYCHIC POWERS THAT WERE NEVER ONCE EXPLAINED OR HINTED THAT HE HAS AND CAN JUST BLOW UP EVERYBODY'S HEAD AT WILL
huuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhh???????????????? okay, so he isn't weak at all. it ruined the game for me and I've had no interest in picking it back up since.
I want an Oddworld hack n slash.
Stupid zoomer
Guess I will just look for someone selling the PS1 discs and play the original then
Emulate them dumb dumb
They're on Steam and probably GOG
Try stranger's wrath its a first person shooter set in the oddworld universe.
I gave up emulation last year. I vowed to buy physical copies if I own that console.
I own them from GOG and I am having issues with it. I tried several fixes I could find but still very shaky. I am sure the PSX versions work out of the box.
original hardware on a crt display
The remake is shit, just emulate the PSX versions if you can't get the PC versions working.
It's been probably a decade but dont the tutorial signs explain this?
What? Unless you're playing the second one it's explained at the beginning. I think the second one does as well.
The remake is honestly fine. The only problem with it is that they fucked up the whole tone, which was really spooky and amazing on the PS1. It's still good, everything is basically the same.
You can play new n tasty then jump right into soulstorm
Because they said that Soulstorm will disregard Abe's Exodus

And all of these are official comparisons designed to promote the remake.
Autism. It's not as good as the original but honestly thinking that the game being altered slightly makes it "TRASH" is cringe. Unironically have sex. Only an incel would give a fuck about this.
Which do you think is better?
Buzzwords
The original, obviously. Even putting aside the remake reducing everything to "dude bloom lmao" it also has artistic changes for no apparent reasons other than thinking "more stuff = better" and being unable to convey the original in their new engine, like the first one having the laser detectors being emitted from an overseeing sphere in the original which are replaced by moving gates on wires in the remake, along with the menacing Glukkon statues just being removed entirely.
A more comprehensive comparison was made by the Irishman:

i don't think you've successfully proved the point you were trying to prove. retard.
So what specifically makes the remake so bad on its own as a way to introduce new audiences while trying to maintain ideas from the original?
I think it was quite clearly illustrated, little zoom.
It's just a worse version of the same game. Why play the worse version when you can play the original instead? Nothing about the remake's gameplay changes are substantial improvements beyond perhaps the addition of a quicksave which Oddysee lacked, but emulators have savestates for that anyway. The most notable gameplay changes of removing the screen transitions and removing the tile-based movement are arguably for the worse, as the game was not designed with this in mind, yet the remake retains the old level design and puzzles and doesn't adjust them to accommodate for these changes, so you end up with things like sligs seeing you from further away than they would in the original, and mines being substantially harder to deal with since you can no longer jump as precisely.
There's no reason to subject yourself to the remake's vastly inferior art direction just for the sake of a higher resolution when you can simply play the original.
tldr
The remake would allow me to play the game without a bunch of technical issues due to an old PC port on modern hardware.
If you can't get the PC versions to work and you're too much of a retarded moralfag to just emulate the PSX versions and you also don't want to buy the PSX versions instead for some reason then at that point you're just an idiot making excuses.
I plan to buy the PSX versions instead now.
