what marks a game is the story, because you can tell it to your children and grandchildren, it's a experience that will never go away
The truth is gameplay doesnt fucking matter if the story is good
Wrong
if the gameplay is bad but the story is good, why be a game at all?
i'll never have children so I don't care about story
>anime picture
Is there anything more embarrassing than anime?
Yes, your existence
if the gameplay doesn't matter then it isn't a game, is it faggot? go watch movies
I fucking warned people about narrative gameplay convergence and the negative side effects but nobody wants to admit story games gave had a negative effect on the medium
Redditors.
seething weebs lol
>> Bad Game Play
Might as well have been a fucking book, at least then someone could throw it at you user
If you think other people care about the stories in games you played years ago, you won't have to worry about having children to tell them to
>the truth is story doesn't matter if gameplay is good
FTFY
Playing the game should create the story and interesting situations that you can reminisce about
A good story can help a game and contextualize progression but it's not more important than the gameplay most of the time
Dumb sataniaposter
it can be either, having both is even more rare.
But how can you expect me to get to the end of the story, if the gameplay loop is shit?
name 1 game with an actually good story
VNs obviously dont count
a netflix original
Name 1 (one) thing a game can do regarding story that a book or movie can't
>Deus Ex
>VTMB
>System Shock 2
All of these legendary games are remembered today for their story but the gameplay in each of them were dogshit
Trails in the Sky series
Trails of Cold Steel series
The Witcher 2 & 3
Valkyria Chronicles 1 and 4
Utawarerumono Trilogy
Suikoden 2
Chrono Trigger
Xenoblade Chronicles 1 & 2
I could go on but I'm mainly posting these to trigger Zig Forums since most of these objectively good games make the discord tranny raiders angry.
>Trails in the Sky series
>Trails of Cold Steel series
>Xenoblade Chronicles
>Witcher 3
Nice bait.
dont even know what half of these games are
>Suikoden 2
My nigga
The problem is people confuse good storytelling with stories that personally interest and engage them. Imagine people would deconstruct the story telling of your favorite game like they are doing for TLOU2 currently and think again if it's a good story or not.
99% of video games stories still pale in comparison to movies and books. The framework of a game generally holds the story telling back. If stories are the only thing that mattered, why bother being a game at all?
>Weeb
I haven't played the other two but Deus Ex's immersive sim approach to gameplay is great you fucking pleb.
It's time to back ^^;
Nah.
No story is worth playing a glitchy mess, but a bad story is easily ignored or laughed at in the face of fun and engaging gameplay.
I love game stories, but I'll sacrifice it for gameplay in a heartbeat, because I also watch movies and read books for my story fixes.

If the story is good you can just watch the movie version. Imagine grinding yourself for story. Gotta be mentally handicapped.
complaining about anime on an anime image board
It’s painful because it’s right. Good gameplay keeps people playing the game, but good story/art/music keeps people talking about the game and gets people to start playing the game
>weeb

No one tells anyone about exciting video game stories because the stories themselves are almost always not that good. What people tell others is when there is a cool element that is really sticking out and basically non generic like the moment in Ocarina of Time when you pull out the sword and seemingly can switch timelines.
This kind of story twist that is interconnected with the gameplay is what is the best. Another example is Suikoden where you collect various talented warriors trough the entire kingdom which is woven into the gameplay and story in various shapes. Sengoku Rance does something similar where you get different units depending on your choices and experience different story perspectives that way while still deeply interconnecting it with gameplay.
games are to be played for the gameplay. that's what makes them different from other forms of media. if i just wanted an audio-visual story experience i'd watch a movie.
Completely wrong, it's the other way around. Great gameplay can carry shit or non existing story.
Dont know what I expected from a weebshit anyway.
You're so close to having an intelligent opinion.
The fact is, a good game mechanically can forsake the story and aesthetics to a degree, a good game aesthetically can forsake the story and mechanics, a good game story-wise can forsake the mechanics and the aesthetics.

Makes sense.
