I think it could be viable as some indie project. Not something to take too seriously, just have fun. Just have more mechanics and custom games without going full SRPG.

I'd be interested to see how simulturn chess plays. (Both moves carried out at the same time, pieces swap places if they both attempt to take each other, if two pieces move to the same space they take each other).

Simulturn, a third dimension, none of this does any good for improving upon the core value of chess.

The point of chess is that it's just barely beyond possibility for almost any human being to foresee all possible outcomes 3 or more turns in advance. In order to improve upon the design for those who have circled up around the game, you have to make it simpler and bring it closer to this theoretical lower limit.

No, because they can move another piece. It would only be a stalemate if the king was the only piece they could move.

Also one of the first strategy games to contain creative representation built into the board (pieces have distinct shape and represent roles in society.)

You could probably sell a game that was nothing but chess with Hades-style art and clashing animations and dialogue between units presented in the style of a VN or fighting game intro screen.

0, i don't play online nor compete irl, most i did was small scale competitions inside the school i frequented, just setup the board on chessdotcom exactly as op and tried what came up to my mind, when i tried f4 it indicated mate in 1 so i just tried different options, i'm a complete brainlet and you'd probably beat me 1 on 1

Bros I'm a certified brainlet. I have played chess every day for all of high school and my "strategy" never evolved beyond luck, opportunism and playing people dumber or less invested than myself. I can seriously play whole games not knowing what the fuck is going on a few moves in the making, and often botch checkmates to the point of attrition. What the fuck is my problem?
