It will depend on Phil's ability to sell the "ecosystem" to the board of directors. If he, by some miracle, manages to convince them that selling the Sexbox for something stupid, like 150 bucks or something, then the generation is fucking over. At that point Sony can literally print exclusives every single second that there is and they will never catch up.

Realistically though, all he needs to do is 100 bucks less than the PS5. If he manages that it will be a close race.

Why though? They shilled this before and after every Inside Xbox conference.

from a strategical standpoint, sure. not all strategies pan out as expected though. the key word in the heading is "believes". i'm sure sony believed they'd continue their marketshare dominance with a $599 ps3, yet their strategy flopped and they came in dead last in 7th gen. microsoft believed they could do well with their xbox one strategy and it bombed.
though if i'm honest the strategy does seem like a very good one based on what i've read. they want a first party game out every 3 months which is very attractive especially compared with a service like gamepass.

xbox dominated the 7th gen between itself and ps3. it outsold ps3 based on last known official numbers and had all the best and highest rated exclusives of the gen like mass effect or halo 3. it made online gaming what it is today. the popularity of youtube montages and stuff were all because of the 360 and xbox live. oh yeah, and it didn't get hacked and go down for like 2 months.

360 was successful enough and the only good exclusives they had was Fable 2 and Lost Odyssey. SeX does seem like it's gonna be a piece of shit with no games. I don't know what the fuck MS is doing throwing away all their exclusives (granted they haven't been good in years).

With Sony driving themselves out of business with high cost production and low customer attachment rates, I believe that Microsoft will come out profiting, but not on top.
