>"I played The Last of Us Part II for two days straight and beat it! And let me tell you, if you're one of those people who are playing it and you think it's a MASTERPIECE of fiction, just wait until you read books or watch movies, because you've been missing out and I'm ENVIOUS of you! [laughing] Fucking videogames SUCK! [laughs uproariously]"
>is a cuck >literally fuck other men or gets fucked by them >dresses obnoxiously for sheer attention >plays video games every day but actually thinks they're shit
Why does everyone feel the need to put down video games?
Like it's universal. Zig Forums does, I've seen gaming forums do it, hell even games critics do it. I just get the impression that people want to flog themselves for liking video games. Like it's some kinda guilty pleasure and they think they should be spending every hobby hour on a french art film nobody understands or learning some skill that they could easily learn by just diversifying their free time.
Because videogames are PRODUCT meant to be CONSUMED for ENTERTAINMENT rather than for enrichment, compelling storytelling, or social commentary. It's a hobby. It's not a niche hobby and hasn't been for 20 years. No one cares about a shitty art game or movie game because they always fail to deliver on both fronts because the people in charge are hack frauds and the real muscle behind the project just wants sales numbers to go up.

It's not about denigrating games, it's a negative response to morons who think games are movies or that movie games are good art. They're not.
Games have the opportunity to be emotional masterpieces, but not by aping movies. They're incredibly different mediums, as any game OR film auteur will attest, and trying to shove what works in one medium into the other will never ever result in something profound and resonant.
TLOU2 is not the Schindler's List of gaming and to call it that is pretty fucking offensive to several different groups, not the least of which is gamers.
If you want video games to reach a point where we've mastered the form and can convey deep emotionally resonant LUDOnarratives (the ultimate strength of the art form that is quite simply impossible to achieve in anything else) we need to move away from the idea of a forced directorial perspective and explicit messaging and towards ways of building games that rely on the player to organically experience what the game is trying to convey.
>I don't think I've played a game so over-promised. A game for which the accomplishments have been so thoroughly overstated.
>It's an entertaining action/horror game with a miserable story that is nowhere as evocative and shocking as it thinks it is. And its way too self-indulgenent to realise its overstaying its welcome.

biggest poser on youtube. literal cuck and his reviews suck. just like all these self made game "critics" e-celebs on youtube need to be fucking gassed.
Bentley Rodriguez
If even the super liberal SJW Jim didn't like it, you know the game is bad despite its cuck pandering.
Thomas Stewart
I mean even a broken clock is right twice a day. Zig Forums by itself is a fucking garbage heap the majority of the time. Just look at the catalog.

Yeah I agree with him for the most part. You can validly criticise the game without devolving to anti-SJW rhetoric.
Xavier Turner
Is that all games?
>Because videogames are PRODUCT meant to be CONSUMED for ENTERTAINMENT rather than for enrichment, compelling storytelling, or social commentary.
Everything with a price tag really is. If you're using the defense that they're like Marvel or something, how does that explain really esoteric shit like the Void or Pathologic? Or fuck we could be here all day with very niche games or even some specifically made to make a statement about something. I wouldn't call them shitty art games either since they have a very specific feel they go for that they nail, especially something like Pathologic 2 or the Void.
>It's not a niche hobby I mean if your hobby is playing the hurdy gurdy probably. I wouldn't call most things niche, and I don't think that really makes a hobby superior. It just means your tastes are different.
> it's a negative response to morons who think games are movies or that movie games are good art. They're not.
But I'm interested to know what is good art? I mean how are you judging that? Is it like cinematography and art direction? Are you using the standards from Hollywood or are we using games as the standard.
I mean I understand thinking that going cinematic for video games is wrong, I don't feel you're taking advantage of the medium if the player isn't using the controller. But denying that art direction or 'shots' haven't been defining moments in a game is a little near-sighted to me. If all that mattered was gameplay, I imagine we'd still be playing pog.
Sebastian Thompson
i know it's a meme answer, but undertale did tell a story only a game could. The plot and themes are directly tied to gameplay and the gameplay doesn't sacrifice fun for the sake of the message. It's a game that know it's a game and takes advantage of the medium. Another game that can take advantage of the medium are rpgs. Simply put an rpg allows you to interact with a world in ways that no book or movie or series can. Take mass effect (the first one) for example. Think all the small talks you have with random civilians, the codex or the fact that you can stroll around and take the setting in.
There's absolute beauty and art in how a game can tell a story, but right now it's too mainstream and corporate driven to ever jump to be universally accepted as an art form

Honestly, calling Duckmann a cuck and saying his game is pushing a poisoned agenda is perfectly valid.

That I don't really take issue with. Unironically insisting Abby is a tranny though, that annoys me because it's actually false.
Kevin Nelson
Unironically Jim Sterling is one of the most disgusting looking ecelebs on Youtube which is impressive given a large amount of them all look like they'd fit in a diabetes-induced obituary. I just feel uncomfortable looking at him and that accent only makes it worse.
Ethan Lee
It's not even a meme answer. Posters here loved Undertale when it launched, but once it started getting popular across the whole internet, the contrarian nature of this place kicked in HARD Now liking a genuinely great game is either reddit or cringe

And I'm in the wrong if I get annoyed by the fact that you basically can't discuss games with children or bare feet in it without Zig Forums making it weird. I can't even talk about one of the better indie platformers out there because it's hat in time.

>Unironically insisting Abby is a tranny though I just do it for the memes. It's honestly retards that fall for crap like that because they just never question what they're given. It's hard to blame them if they're just trusting their eyes though. Abby is about as far removed from feminine as you could get. Take away her braid and make her silent and she'd probably just look like a fit young man to most people.
Jason Rodriguez
I'm a film student. When films were first started to become popular, nobody took them seriously. They were considered mindless fun to be consumed and discarded. It took decades until people started to take films more seriously and now some of the most acclaimed works of creative effort are films.
I'm guessing video games are going through the same thing film went through when it was still a young medium for artistic expression.
>I can't even talk about one of the better indie platformers out there because it's hat in time. You can, you just ignore the loli fags trying to shit up the thread. You should know your audience though. People on Zig Forums are pretty open about shitposting and being edgy, so it comes with the territory.

In his review he called people insulting the game for having a disgusting tranny freak as a sympathetic character in it and having blatant sjw white male bad propaganda in it as retards and called himself, in a SERIOUS NON SARCASTIC WAY, a "cis white male" and found the issues the game presents as "brave" (lmao).
He also blatantly misunderstood Joels character as a "bad guy" while the entire reason he gunned down those firefly cucks was because 1. they treated him like shit, 2. the audio tapes showed that those experiments are essentially pointless and 3. they didn't even let him see Ellie.
I respect Sterling for his reports about the industry, but Jesus Christ was his main review horrible. I agree that Last of Us 2 probably doesn't deserve the low ratings on the surface alone that it has decent gameplay, graphics and design, but it is blatant sjw propaganda and one of the worst written pieces of media in the history of mankind.
