I have never played a game from this franchise, or owned a XBOX console

I'm not interested in multiplayer at all. Do any of the games have a good singleplayer campaign, that can also be played(preferably pirated, at least to try it out) on PC?

If you dont want to touch the MCC then just get Project Cartographer and disregard the franchise afterwards. Dont fall for the CE is good meme

CE is pretty good

Halo is one of the few shooter games where the campaign is better than the multiplayer

halo 1-3 and ODST have a fairly good story. ODST is set during the events of 3

reach was memes and i really disliked 4

oh based, I found a Halo the masterchief collection torrent, is that a good place to get started? I legit know nothing about this franchise. In what order should I play the games on PC?

...what
You can pirate the MCC single player games right now (Reach, CE, 2) , additionally there's also the original ports of CE and 2 you can download if you are on an older or less powerful computer

play in order of release (1, 2, 3, odst, reach, 4).

1 is combat evolved, right?

yeah CE is 1.
The campaign's are alright but honestly I wouldn't say they're amazing. Probably better than most other fps single player segments but don't go in expecting it to change your life.

HALO 1 and 2 (haven't played 3 and 4 yet) have really good campaigns. I'm not a huge fan of the health system but the gameplay is pretty fun and different enough from other shooters and the weapons are pretty good. The story, music and voice acting is great too. You can get most of them on PC with the Masterchief Collection, although they are still working on adding 3 and 4 to it. You can get the original HALO (without remastered graphics) on gamesnostalgia for free by the way. If you like it I suggest getting the MC Collection.

Reach is okay by the way, I just don't give a shit about it.

Absolutely yes.

The Bungie made Halos have phenomenal single player campaigns.

You can pirate the MCC on pc.

Yes CE is the first game. Overall its good all the way through, but the first half of the game is better than the rest.

also OP, 3 is coming out pretty soon as part of the MCC.
I would recommend going through reach but honestly you can just stop there and pretend the 343 games don't exist

awesome bros I'll download the collection. I have to finish the last Titanfall 2 mission first. I got into a crazy fps binge( I never played this genre before except doom1 way back in the day and cs1.6 ) where I finished DOOM2016 yesterday(Fucking amazing game, will do a replay for sure) and today I started(and finished) Titanfall 2( I loved it as well, really innovative title, pure fun ). Now I'm not sure if I should play DOOM Eternal or try out Halo, but I think I'll do Halo first so I dont get burned out on DOOM gameplay(even though I'm not sure that's possible) considering I played 10hours of it yesterday.

The original trilogy campaigns are all great. Are they perfect? Of course not. Make sure to play it on heroic for the true experience.

I'm very glad to hear it, I knew nothing about the games, like I said, I always assumed it was multiplayer only or some shit, I never owned a xbox so I didnt look into it that much. Glad you helped me bros, I'm sure I'll like the games

Doom eternal is a great game but they made some controversial changes compared to 2016.
In 2016 your arsenal is like a sandbox; you can pick whatever weapon you enjoy using and kill any enemy with it. In eternal certain weapons/mods are extremely effective against particular demons, and the gameplay is kind of balanced around you taking advantage of that. If you don't you will end up dying and probably not even progressing through certain parts.
On top of that they added more resource management so you glory kill for health, use a flamethrower for armor, and you use your chainsaw (now has one recharging fuel cell) for ammo. This means that there is a lot less ammo pickup on the map and there is effectively a cooldown on how often you can get ammo, so you have to be really careful about how you use your weapons.

It's a much more defined playstyle that turned some people off, but personally I still found it really enjoyable.

iirc Project Cartographer is a port of Halo 2's Vista version to newer systems.

>Make sure to play it on heroic for the true experience.
People always say this about HALO but I find it to be a bunch of bullcrap. Higher difficulty doesn't really make the game that much better, it just makes you spend more time regenerating health.

yeah I was just replaying through halo ce and honestly on normal difficulty it's like heroic in the newer games. Just go through them on normal and if it's too easy go to heroic, but legendary is usually more of a chore than a treat.

Eh I’d say start with Reach and go to CE, 2, and 3

Oh yeah I'm sure I'll love it as well as long as it still got that fun movement and fun weapons, nice soundtrack etc(which it does). Maybe some of you guys would call me a mindless consoomer, but I really enjoy most games, I can almost always find something fun about most titles. I really love this hobby I guess, even after all those years. For me, games are the best media, I read a ton of books, watched a ton of movies, but there still is something special about vidya.

it's gonna be really awkward for someone, especially who hasn't played halo or even that many FPS games, to go from reach with new graphics, accurate hitscan weapons, better hit detection, armor abilities, etc to halo 1 which is missing all of that.
And yes, I still think reach looks better than cea

This but skip Reach. The multiplier and forge were okay but the campaign was trash.

I disagree
Easy is "learn to play FPS"
Normal is "use all the mechanics"
Heroic is "use all the mechanics effectively"
Legendary is "learn how to break/exploit everything"

Doesn't CE actually change health/damage numbers across difficulties? I remember grenade jumps being really hard to time on Easy because grenades are actually strong enough to kill you from full health (and shields recharge super slowly for some reason)

casually based, I love it

>skip reach
>but not halo 4

The multiplayer portion doesn't translate well to pc
Campaign is still good though, worth buying it just for that

This goes for pretty much any game. Just choose the difficulty you normally would.

buy game pass for $1 and play it for a month

CE is definitely worth playing. It has a great mysterious vibe to it and the gameplay and story is good. Plus 2 is a sequel and not a standalone thing, it works best if you already played 1.

nah I'll just pirate it, as I said I'm not gonna play the mplayer anyways. I'll save the 1$ gamepass deal for something else, who knows when I'll want it

If you end up getting into the story you could use gamepass to play halo wars 2 to get you introduced into halo infinite plotlines
