It died with Gen 6
Then it started to rot with Gen 8.
I actually really enjoyed Gen 7, but there's no way in hell I'm ever going to replay it because of how many cutscenes there are.

Whatever was after pokemon black/white 2. Then i grew up. I lived thru pokemania in the mid to late 90s. It was based but not a manchild anymore.

See, I'm like you. When you measure it on raw gameplay merits Sun and Moon have a lot going for them, but the idea of replaying just sounds like a chore. I remember playing gen 7 OU on Showdown more fondly than I remember playing the actual gen 7 games.

It isn't dead just yet, they're still workin on the new Pokemon Snap game.

Considering if I should buy a 3DS to play the first mainline 3D Pokemon game, I didn't and it was a good choice.

This is one of the reasons why Gamefreak is a billion dollar company and the mainline are still so consistently zero effort. They could fart in any vidya genre and make millions.
