I think the problem is that Hayashi doesn't know what the fuck to do to make NG work and be profitable. Say what you like about Itagaki, but he got the results people wanted. In an ideal world the two would try co-operating to make NG4 with TN working alongside Valhalla, but that's not the world we live in.

I’m inclined to agree with this. Team Ninja said that Nioh 1 doing well might bolster the likelihood of NG. The fact that what we got instead was Nioh 2 I think is a strong indicator that they just don’t have enough interest to revive the series.
I’d adore a new NG, especially on PC, but I just don’t see it happening. The only other factor that has come up recently that might be a good sign is DMC5’s surprising success; that might tell TN that a new core audience character action game may be profitable if they keep the budget relatively low.

Hayashi did fine with NG3R once he stopped trying to make a fun magic ninja hack-n-slash into some high concept shit. I think a brand new game, without having to build off of the bones of the shit that was NG3, could be good from him.

DT was a development nightmare that was clearly put into Death March, it had to be completely reworked from the ground up and the original planned footage actually looked decent but they obviously couldn't implement it.
I think he'd be fine to handle it so long as they're actually given a manageable schedule, they already have a solid working concept for how NG plays so it's not like DT where they were working from nothing.
