No. It could have just been Big Boss taking revenge and going nuclear. Instead we got another stupid ass retcon for something that didn't even need explaining. There's no reason why Venom couldn't have just been Big Boss.
Yes the cut content and all that is disappointing, but what really kills me about this game is that it HAD to have some retarded Kojima twist. It could have just told the story of how Big Boss founded Outer Heaven and maybe at the end he goes back to FOXHOUND or something, setting up for MG1. Instead we get this stupid useless sequel/prequel that doesn't even manage to tie up any loose ends at all.

He became a bad guy not for wanting to live in constant war, but for responding to what Skullface did to him in GZ by changing the world (to hide his ass and make sure that no one suppresses him ever again) instead of withstanding any more suffering/struggling.
if you pay attention to the lines of Venom's speech in the nuclear disarmament ending, you get a hint that Venom would eventually resort to doing the same shit as well, which would only end up in him using his men as tools and betraying his anti-war and anti-nuke ideals, becoming the same monster that Big Boss became.

I was doing a replay from scratch after few years and playing the mission to save Emmerich and went to the big base, played for 2 hours and got an alert and I was shot. I restarted. Same again. I restarded. I threw the disc into the trash.
I have tried to finish the game for 3 times now and I've been well past Chapter 2 in Africa etc but I just don't feel like doing it. I wanted to like it but it's not possible. This is not Metal Gear.

the game would go from a 7 to a 9 for me if it had co-op. TPP was a fun game, the ending just kills it though. It kills it so bad that I don't even feel the need to ever play through it again. My yearly full series playthroughs haven't ever included it.
